Ni-ki's point of view
The day had started like any other, but it quickly turned into a whirlwind of emotions and revelations.I woke up with a sense of purpose, determined to make a meaningful impact and prove my worth to Jiyoo and her family. I knew that every moment counted if I wanted to earn their respect and acceptance.
It was a sunny morning when I decided to stop by Jiyoo’s house. I had noticed her garden was looking a bit neglected and figured it would be a good opportunity to lend a hand and spend some quality time with her. I arrived around mid-morning, just as Jiyoo was out front, hosing down the lawn.
“Hey, Jiyoo! Looks like you could use some help,” I called out as I approached, trying to sound cheerful and casual.
She looked up, her surprise quickly melting into a smile. “Oh, Ni-ki! Thanks for coming over. I could definitely use an extra set of hands.”
We dove into the task together, the sun casting a warm glow over the garden as we worked. Jiyoo was at one end of the yard, hosing down the front lawn, while I tackled the overgrown flower beds.
As we moved around, the rhythmic sound of water and the rustling of leaves became a pleasant backdrop to our conversation.
"Looks like these roses could use a little more TLC," I said, pulling out weeds with a determined tug.
Jiyoo glanced over, a smile tugging at her lips. "I swear, they grow faster than I can keep up with. It’s like they have a personal vendetta against me."
I chuckled, brushing dirt off my hands. "Well, you’ve got me now. Maybe they’ll be too scared to grow."
We shared a laugh, and the ease of the moment made me forget about the pressure of proving myself.
As we worked side by side, I found myself enjoying the simple act of being around her, sharing stories and joking about our day-to-day lives. Her laughter was infectious, and I couldn’t help but feel more at ease with every passing minute.
"Did you ever think you’d be working in someone’s garden like this?" she asked, holding up a particularly stubborn weed.
“Not exactly,” I admitted, shaking my head. “But I guess life has a way of throwing you into new situations. I’m just glad I get to be here with you.”
She raised an eyebrow playfully. “Smooth talker, huh?”
I grinned, shrugging. “Just trying to impress.”
We continued working, the garden slowly transforming under our combined efforts. The sun warmed our backs, and the sense of accomplishment grew as the flower beds started to look neater, the lawn more vibrant.
Every so often, I’d catch her glancing over, and I could see the appreciation in her eyes.
By the time we finished, the garden looked revitalized. Jiyoo stepped back, wiping her brow, and took a good look at our work. “Wow, it actually looks pretty great. Thanks for your help, Ni-ki.”
“No problem,” I replied, feeling a surge of satisfaction. “It was actually kind of fun.”
As we wrapped up, Jay and Sunghoon came out, having just finished their basketball game at the back of their house. Jay, ever observant, gave me a scrutinizing look but nodded in approval.
