A deafening silence swallowed the world.
For the first time, the Park brothers—Jay, Sunghoon, Chanyeol, and Jimin—stood completely still, their breaths caught in their throats as their eyes fixated on the horrifying sight before them.
Jiyoo lay on the cold pavement, bathed in crimson.
The blood beneath her spread like ink on paper, seeping into the cracks of the road, staining everything it touched. It was too much.
Too red. Too real.
Jay moved first. His feet carried him before his mind could catch up.
“Jiyoo!” His voice cracked, desperate, raw. He dropped to his knees beside her, hands trembling as they hovered over her limp body, unsure where to touch.
The thought of hurting her further paralyzed him, but the greater fear—the fear that she was slipping away—made his heart hammer painfully in his chest.
Carefully, as if handling the most fragile thing in the world, Jay cradled the back of her head, lifting her slightly into his lap. His breath hitched when his fingers felt something wet and warm against her hair.
He pulled his hand away, and his heart nearly stopped at the sight—his palm, soaked in blood.
"No, no, no, no," he muttered, shaking his head violently, refusing to believe what was happening. Tears blurred his vision, and he blinked rapidly, trying to clear them.
"Jiyoo, open your eyes. Please, please wake up." His voice cracked, filled with helplessness.
Beside him, Sunghoon was kneeling but completely frozen. His hands clenched and unclenched at his sides, his entire body trembling violently. He couldn't bring himself to touch her, couldn't bear the thought of feeling her cold skin under his fingers.
His breathing was erratic, and a whimper threatened to escape his lips, but he swallowed it down.
Chanyeol, the eldest, was paralyzed for only a moment longer before instinct took over. He dropped down next to them, his hands moving to check her pulse, pressing his fingers against her wrist.
It was there. Faint. But there.
He exhaled sharply, the tightness in his chest loosening just a little. "She has a pulse," he announced, though his voice shook, betraying the terror inside him.
Sunghoon's breath hitched, and something in him shattered. His hands finally moved, reaching out, grasping onto Jiyoo’s wrist—clutching onto her as if letting go would mean losing her forever.
His fingers barely pressed against her skin, afraid that she would disappear under his touch.
“Jiyoo, please,” Sunghoon choked out. His voice was quiet, fragile, so unlike him. His vision swam with tears, but he didn't care. “Don’t do this to us.”
Jay was rocking her gently, his head pressed against hers, whispering frantic prayers. “Come back, baby sis. Please. You can't leave us like this." He sniffled, his breath shaky. "You said you'd never let anyone make you cry. So wake up and yell at me, Jiyoo. Come on, fight with me like you always do.”
Jimin was the only one standing, his fingers fumbling as he pulled out his phone. His hands shook so badly that it took him two tries to press the emergency number.
"Hello?!" His voice was frantic, almost unrecognizable even to himself. "We need an ambulance, now! She's bleeding out—she's unconscious—please hurry!"
Around them, the world blurred. The distant honking of cars, the murmurs of people watching, the gasps of Akira’s family—it was all background noise.
