Cheerleading practice was never something I looked forward to, especially after what happened last time. But Sunoo had practically dragged me to the gym, insisting that it would be “fun” and “good for the soul,” whatever that meant.

He was always so bubbly and optimistic, and I couldn’t help but let myself get swept along by his enthusiasm.

“Come on, Jiyoo,” Sunoo chirped as we walked into the gym. “This is gonna be great! We’ll get some exercise, you’ll get to show off those killer moves, and then we can head over to watch Sunghoon’s practice. Two birds, one stone!”

I sighed, giving him a half-hearted smile. “Yeah, sure. I’m just here to support you, remember?”

Sunoo rolled his eyes. “You say that now, but just wait until you’re out there flipping and flying. You’ll love it!”

I didn’t have the heart to tell him that cheerleading wasn’t exactly my thing anymore, but I appreciated the effort. The practice went by in a blur of stunts and routines, with Sunoo cheering louder than anyone.

By the time we were done, I was sweaty and out of breath, but Sunoo was grinning from ear to ear.

“You did awesome, Jiyoo!” he said, giving me a high five. “Told you it would be fun!”

“Yeah, yeah,” I replied, wiping sweat from my forehead. “Let’s just go watch Sunghoon before I collapse.”

We made our way to the other side of the gym where the basketball team was practicing. As soon as we walked in, I spotted Sunghoon and Jay on the court, their movements fluid and precise.

They were so in sync, it was like watching a well-oiled machine in action.

But what really caught my eye was the new player. He was tall, with a smooth jump shot and a confidence that radiated off him. As I watched him move across the court, something about him seemed familiar, like I’d seen him before.

Then it clicked.

Heeseung. The guy I’d met at the rest stop, Jiwoo’s brother.

My heart skipped a beat, excitement bubbling up inside me. I couldn’t wait to talk to him after the practice, to ask him about Jiwoo and maybe even see her again.

It was a silly thing to be excited about, but I couldn’t help it.

As the practice wound down, I kept my eyes on Heeseung, waiting for the right moment. When the coach finally called it a day, I wasted no time in making my way over to him.

“Heeseung!” I called out, waving as I approached.

He looked up, a bit surprised to see me but quickly breaking into a smile. “Jiyoo, right? From the rest stop?”

“Yeah! I just realized you’re Jiwoo’s brother. I’ve been meaning to ask—how is she?”

He chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. “She’s doing great. She’s actually here with me today. My dad’s picking us up in a bit.”

Before I could say anything more, I noticed Jay and Sunghoon approaching. Jay looked curious, but Sunghoon’s expression was something else entirely—nervous, almost like he was on edge.

“Wait, you know Heeseung?” Jay asked, clearly surprised.

I nodded. “Yeah, we met at a rest stop. He’s Jiwoo’s brother.”

Sunghoon didn’t say anything, but I noticed the way his jaw tightened, and his eyes darted between me and Heeseung. Something was off, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
