The evening was progressing as planned. Sunoo had finally arrived for the sleepover, and I was looking forward to spending some time hanging out with him.
I was still basking in the afterglow of the cookies Ni-ki had brought me, and now I was excited for a night of fun.
However, my excitement was tempered by the surprise of the night: Sunoo had shown up with Ni-ki in tow.
As the car pulled up, I saw Sunoo get out with Ni-ki walking up from their house, and I couldn’t help but feel a little anxious. The last thing I needed was more complications, especially with Ni-ki’s persistent presence in my life.
“Hey, Jiyoo!” Sunoo called out cheerfully as he approached the front door with Ni-ki. “I hope it’s okay, but I brought Ni-ki along. He insisted on coming and hanging out too.”
I raised an eyebrow, glancing at Ni-ki who followed closely behind Sunoo. He looked as relaxed as ever, his casual demeanor suggesting that he was genuinely interested in joining the sleepover.
Jay was the first to react. He stepped in front of the door, crossing his arms with a stern expression. “Sunoo, you know the rules about sleepovers. We didn’t plan for Ni-ki to be here.”
Sunoo looked apologetic but firm. “Come on, Jay. It’s just Ni-ki. He’s been a good friend to Jiyoo lately. It’ll be fine.”
Sunghoon, who had been standing off to the side, was visibly torn. He glanced from Sunoo to Jay, clearly conflicted. “Come on, Jay. It’s Sunoo asking. I don’t want to make him upset.”
Jay sighed, clearly frustrated but knowing he was outnumbered. “Fine. But Ni-ki can’t stay in Jiyoo’s room. We’ll have to make some space elsewhere.”
Sunghoon’s face lit up with relief, and he gave Jay a grateful nod. “Thanks, Jay. I appreciate it.”
Jay led Ni-ki to a spare room and set up a makeshift space for him, his displeasure evident with every movement. I could tell he was doing this more out of obligation than genuine acceptance.
Once everything was sorted, the sleepover began. Sunoo and I made ourselves comfortable in the living room, and Ni-ki joined us, settling in with surprising ease. We played video games, watched movies, and talked about everything under the sun.
Ni-ki seemed to fit right in, making jokes and contributing to the conversation with a natural flair.
Sunghoon kept a watchful eye on Jay, who was noticeably trying to include himself in the fun.
Sunghoon’s attempts to keep Jay from ruining the night were both amusing and slightly frustrating. He didn’t want Jay’s presence to spoil the relaxed vibe, but Jay was determined to be involved.
As the night wore on, we thought everything was going smoothly. That was until Jay decided to step out, saying he needed to grab something from the car.
We were in the middle of a movie when he returned, but with a surprise that no one was expecting.
“I thought you might need some company,” Jay said, grinning widely as he ushered Jungwon into the room.
My heart sank as I saw Jungwon enter, his eyes scanning the room with curiosity. Sunghoon’s expression immediately shifted from relaxed to dismayed, while I felt a rush of horror.
The last thing we needed was more drama.
Sunoo looked between Sunghoon and me, trying to gauge the situation, while Ni-ki remained unfazed, clearly enjoying the chaos. Jungwon, seemingly oblivious to the tension, greeted everyone with a friendly wave and settled down on the couch.
