Once Reil was done, she'd washed her face while Sarah helped brush her hair.

It hurt Sarah to see Reil fall apart so much. It was obvious she missed Drix and was serious with him, or why else would she be like this.

When Reil had showed up at her doorstep, it had come as a huge surprise.

Everyone was looking for her and the last place Sarah expected her to be was at her house.

But it also gave her a calming feeling that she'd come to meet her when she needed comfort.

It was better than for her to meet some other person who'd probably advise her to let him go and probably abort the child.

Sarah led Reil to the couch where they both took a seat beside each other.

Reil's skin had turned pale. She looked so tired of everything. She looked miserable.

Her eyes were swollen, dark circles were under her eyelids, her lips were swollen and she could never look paler.

“You're going to be alright, I'm sure of that.” Sarah wished she could do more than offer her petty words, but that was all she had.

She just prayed and hoped the words would comfort her.

A drop of tear rolled down Reil's cheeks. “Sarah,” the way she said her name sent adrenaline pumping in her blood.

Was she going to pass out? What'd she do if that happened? Her house was far from the nearest hospital.

It dawned on Sarah, Reil hadn't visited the hospital for check ups and all.

Gosh.

“Is everything alright?” She wrapped her arms around Reil, clutching her to her sides.

“You should go to work.” That was the last thing she'd expected to hear.

“Work?” was the last thing on her mind. Reil needed her. “No way am I leaving you alone.”

“Don't worry, I'm not going to steal anything from your house.” She tried to  sound less humorless, but the weakness in her voice overtook it.

“I'm not leaving you here alone. What if something happens to you? You don't have a phone which means you don't have any means of communication.”

Reil sighed. “I promise I'll be alright, I need someone to be at the company while I'm not around.”

“The company would still run if we're not around for a month.” That wasn't true, but at the moment Sarah needed to be there for Reil so if lying was the only way Reil would be convinced, then so be it.

“I'm serious,” Reil continued, “nothing would happen to me. I'm fine.”

After minutes of convincing, Sarah finally agreed. “I'll only be satisfied when I'm sure you've eaten something.”

“I already ate what you gave me.” She sounded like she was forced to eat it, but Sarah ignored that.

“And you threw up most of its content.” Sarah's hands rested on her hips as she gave Reil a mother-like look. “Aren't you craving anything?”

Reil shook her head, gesturing to the door. “Just go, there's no need for you to worry about me, I'll eat when I get hungry.”

“Can you cook?” It would surprise Sarah if she could cook.

Apologies, but anyone would know Reil looked like some spoiled rich billionaire who did nothing in her teenage days than asking her dad for money and going to malls.

What time would she find to learn how to cook? It just didn't work out.

Reil's guilty expression proved her right. “I'll be fine, I'm sure.”

Sarah rolled her eyes. “Why don't I make something before I leave, have it when you're hungry. Also, have a glass of milk and go to sleep after.”

Reil nodded.

Sarah didn't want to add, but she knew Reil had to know. “You should know Reil, I'm a very bad liar and I'm terrible at keeping secrets. I'd spill it all out if I'm asked about it.”

Reil looked nervous. “Please don't.”

The last thing Sarah wanted was stressing her out, but she still had to say the truth.

“But I promise, I'll try my best not to tell Drix.” She immediately added, hoping it'd bring Reil's trust back.

Her unconvinced nod was enough. “Please.”

Sarah knew she wouldn't be sane if she didn't let anyone know.

She couldn't tell Bill as he would obviously tell Drix.

And she couldn't say it in the Bible study as new was likely to reach Cherry who was Bill's mother who could possibly tell Drix about it.

She should probably tell the only person who wasn't connected to anyone in the story.

She'd reach out to Lenny and tell her everything. Maybe her spirit would calm down if she told someone.

“I'll go make the meal.” She said when she was satisfied a load would soon leave her. “You must eat it, okay?”

“Even if I don't want to,” Reil's hand flew to her stomach where she rubbed it gently, “I'll have to do it for my child.”

Although the smile was very small, Sarah could sense the genuineness in them.

It made her happy to know Reil was happy to have her child.

It might be surprising Reil had gotten pregnant for someone she'd met for less than a year, dated for two months, but all things work together for good.

The child was probably her only strength in life after Drix snatched most of it away from her.

But Drix seemed worried about her, maybe Reil's part of the story wasn't the whole thing.

Maybe she could try getting Drix's side of it.

There could be more to whatever was going on.
