Drix placed a hand on the steering wheel as he answered the call from Bill with his second hand, placing it on speaker so he could drive and call.
“What's up?”
“Hey man, you still at your mom's?” He sounded ebullient and Drix couldn't help but wonder what had happened.
“Left a few minutes ago.”
“And she let you go this late?” Bill sounded surprised and his surprise was justifiable.
Cherry hated driving late at night, but he enjoyed it.
It was when the street was less busy and the night breeze was soothing.
“Had to convince her.” He explained, staring down at the road. “Why'd you call?”
“Oh, I'm celebrating something good that happened to me today and I want you to come with me.”
He furrowed his brows. “You're not at work?”
He could hear Bill sigh and was sure he was shaking his head. “Man this is eight in the night, why the fuck would you think I'd still be working?”
He rolled his eyes. “Well then, celebrate alone.”
“Oh come on, I'm at a club and it's weird drinking alone.”
“Then ask a friend.” Unlike him, Bill had like a billion friends so why was he calling him.
“That's why I called, duh.” He sounded like Drix was dumb not to grab that. “You're the closest of all my friends, so come on.”
“Whatever, where're you?”
“Thanks man,” and he sounded sincere, “I'm at…”
Few minutes later, he was pulling his car in front of the club.
He didn't go to clubs often, because he was always too busy with work.
And he also didn't like what he saw at clubs. It always irritated him. Teenagers that couldn't (and refuse to) be helped, married men that waste their lives, alcohols, cigarettes, and many more.
He got down from his car, about to walk into the club when his gaze shifted to a familiar figure.
He couldn't see her face but he'd know those straight black hair anywhere.
And there was a man whose arm was wrapped around her waist as they kissed.
He rolled his eyes. Of course she was one to come to a club and do exactly what irritated him.
At least they could've kissed privately.
That was when he noticed they weren't kissing. It couldn't be called a kiss, because he was the only one kissing her.
She wanted to pull away, but his grip on her waist was too strong. She was hitting his chest to let her go but he wouldn't comply.
Bile rose in his blood as fury filled his entire being.
He ran towards where they were as the man didn't seem to want to leave her alone.
With the anger rising in him, the first thing he did was grab her by her arm, pulling her out of his grip towards him. Her back hitting his chest.
She stared up at him and he saw it. The hopelessness she'd felt, the fear. Everything poured out with that first drop of tear that rolled down her cheek.
He'd never felt so angry. He felt like killing the man, literally killing him.
“How dare you touch her?” He growled through clenched teeth, before releasing Reil, and grabbing the man by the collar.
The guy already looked terrified. “The fu-fuck, let go of me.”
The fear in his eyes was not enough to calm Drix's anger. How dare he touch her like that?
His fist met with the guy's eyes and he let out a wince.
“How dare you?!” He landed a few more punches on his face. And more on his lips. If he didn't have a good lips, he wouldn't forcefully kiss around.
He pushed the guy to the wall, landing more punches on all parts of his body and was not satisfied even as the guy kept on releasing agonizing cries.
He was about to offer another punch, but stopped midair when a hand touched his. “It's okay,” her voice was tear-filled and he only hated the guy more.
He released the dude's shirt, then turned to her. She'd been crying all the time.
The guy took that as an opportunity to run for it, but one thing he didn't know was that Drix would never let him go freely.
“Reil,” he said it softly, because her unending tears broke his heart.
Under her bottom lip was bleeding.
“Did he bite you?”
She didn't reply but continued crying. “Please take me home.”
“Okay.” He wrapped a hand around her shoulder, leading her to his car.
The dude was certainly going to suffer for making her cry this way.
Once they reached his car, he opened the passenger seat for her and she entered, then he closed it walking round to enter the driver's seat.
He started the car and started moving.
“What happened?” He asked after a few minutes of silence and when she'd stopped crying, but she didn't respond so he took it as a queue to let her be for the moment.
The rest of the drive to her house was silent.
He stopped the car in front of her house.
She came out of the car and he did the same. Her eyes were bulged out from crying.
“Thanks.” It came out so weakly, he really hated the dude for what he did to her.
“You should apply something on your injury.” He wished he had something in his car he could give her, but he didn't.
“Yeah.”
“Reil,” he wasn't sure if he should ask or not, but he knew he wouldn't be sane if he didn't ask.
“Hmm.”
“What was his name?”
She sighed a little. “Jack, Jack Hander” Then turning, she walked into her house.
Without waiting another second, he entered his car, reaching for his phone and dialing Bill's number.
He answered after the second ring.
“Hey man, where you at?” He asked like he was getting impatient and annoyed.
But Drix didn't care about that, he cared about finding one person.
“Listen, I need a report on some guy named Jack.”
“Jack?” Bill sounded dumbfounded.
“Yeah, get me the report by tomorrow.”
“Don't be dumb, do you know the amount of Jack's in the world?”
“Jack Hander.” He completed it. “I need the report by tomorrow, bye.”
“Hey, what abo—”
But Drix hung up before Bill could finish. He wondered how she must be feeling and how his hatred towards the guy could not be helped.
He wished he could strangle the guy. But he shouldn't do what he might regret later.
He shouldn't take laws into his hands and just report the dude to the cops.
He stayed there about twenty minutes more before heading back home.
