Bill sat in his office, his phone in his hand as he stared at Sarah's number.
He'd been distracted by that single number since she'd given it to him (ignore that it was for business), and all he had to do was to click on the button.
Yet, for some reason, his fingers weren't following that plan.
He gave it a lot of thoughts on what he'd say to her when he called her. Her response and many more.
Finally thinking he was ready and had given it all a lot of thought, he punched the numbers letting in a large amount of air into his lungs as it began ringing.
How had he become so attached to someone? Was Sarah really the one he'd been looking for? Because he knew one thing, that her presence was all he needed to feel at peace.
After the third ringing, the soft tone echoed in his ear. “Hello?”
A wave of elation passed through him. “Hey Sarah.” But he was sure not to make it evident in his tone.
“Bill?”
“Yeah.” He said with a smile he was certain would look creepy if anyone saw it.
“Oh, look who finally decided to call.” The playfulness in her tone earned a lop-sided smile from him, though she couldn't see him.
It was nice how she was finally getting casual with him. “I guess it's about time I gave you my feedback.”
“Great, so what do you think?” The hopefulness in her tone was enough to make his heart flutter.
“I think we'd have to schedule a meeting today to talk about it.” Meetings were totally unnecessary. They could just talk over the phone.
But why hear her voice alone, when he could see and hear her.
“Okay.” She agreed, not seeming to have wanted to oppose it to begin with. “When do you think you'd be less busy?”
Now.
That was what he wanted to say, but that was certainly going to chase her away, so instead, he gained his composure and gave it a second thought before replying.
“How ‘bout two in the afternoon? You think you'd be free by then?” He asked, hoping she wouldn't postpone the time.
It was ten in the morning which meant he had four whole hours till he saw her. How was he going to get through work in those hours?
She cleared her throat awkwardly and he could sense something he wouldn't like coming.
“Uh…” she started and he hoped she wouldn't say she couldn't come.
“Anything wrong?”
“Could we postpone it to five in the evening? I have somewhere to be.” The place sounded important so although he wanted to desperately see her, he didn't want her to miss going to wherever she wanted to be.
“Okay then, we'll see by five.”
“Thanks a lot.” Relief flashed in her tone and he felt happy to know that.
“Bye then.”
“Bye.”
Hesitantly, he hung up. Seven hours to go.

Seven hours had felt like seven years. With him pacing back and forth the office and checking the clock every second.Work had been so hard to concentrate on, so he told the worker on a level right under him, to take over for him while he prepared for the meeting.
