Lenny hadn't been in contact with Bill since he left her house and it was kind of frustrating.

She laid down all her frustrations on Greg, but he seemed lost in some other thoughts.

“What's up with you?” She finally asked when she was done jabbering about Bill.

He sighed. “I did something I'm feeling guilty about.” He said, looking like he could use a stick of cigarette, but he knew she wouldn't like it.

She had a strict no-smoking rule, so he'd adapted to it and never smoked in her presence.

She raised an eyebrow. “What did you do?”

He picked up his phone that sat on the bench beside him, walking across their meeting area (a small workhouse they'd claimed since they were teenagers), to stand beside her, showing her an interesting picture on his phone.

Her eyes widened at the sight, and her senses prickled in excitement. “Woah, you've kept this hotkey from me. When did you take it?”

He looked really guilty. “Few days back.”

“So what's the problem?” She stared up at him in confusion. “You're using this, you get me.” She ordered.

Before she could get his reply, her phone began vibrating from where she held it.

She was surprised when she checked who was calling and noticed it was her brother, Tom.

Why on earth was he calling her? They weren't too close to talk.

Although she lived with him, they weren't really close.

Tom was a very secretive guy and he rarely came out of his room, except when his girlfriend, Cassey, came over.

Since they were younger, they hadn't been close. He rarely approved of her friends. The only person he approved of was Sarah.

Hers and Greg's parents lived in Chicago which was where she was born and bred, and when she turned eighteen, she moved to college in New York.

She didn't have any place to live so she pleaded with him to allow her to live with him which he did.

They rarely saw each other though they lived with each other so his call was certainly surprising.

She answered the call, placing the phone close to her cheeks. “Hello.”

“Hey,” his thick voice spoke into her ears, “don't come home tonight.” He said it so straight forward, like he couldn't care less where she stayed for the night.

But she knew best than to argue. He was the one who paid all the bills after all. “Okay.” She hung up.

Sensing her annoyance, Greg asked, “what's up?”

“Can I stay at your place tonight?” It wasn't the first time Tom had done something like that, and she always stayed with Greg.

He gave her a sad look. “I'm sorry but my family's coming tonight and the house will be full.”

She groaned, leaning back against the chair.

“Oh my, thank you so much for coming over Lenny.” Sarah said looking like her insides were a balloon that was about to pop.

“Something wrong?” She took a sip of her orange juice.

Sarah sighed before nodding. “Something's been on my mind and I can't tell anyone, but you know how terrible I am at keeping secrets and when I get calls asking for an update, I feel like I'm spinning in the air but there's no parachute in the way.”

Normally, it's not supposed to make sense, but Lenny knew Sarah a lot. She was terrible at keeping secrets.

When they were younger, they'd planned to sneak out at night to go to a friend's party together though their parents had told them not to.

Lenny suspected that Sarah would pop if she stayed alone with her parents, so she stayed with her all day since they were having a sleepover, but the one time she went to the bathroom, she came with annoyed parents.

So instead of going to a party, they stayed up all night to listen to their parents scolding. It was terrible.

And there were more. Many more.

“You wanna talk about it?”

“Duh,” Sarah dabbed her sweat with a pink handkerchief she'd pulled out of her handbag, “I guess if I tell someone else, I'd probably feel better.”

Lenny knew it wasn't true, but Sarah seemed to think otherwise so she just decided to be the friend who'd listen.

“Okay, hit me on it all.”

Sarah spat it all out. Everything. From scratch, top to bottom. Things Lenny was sure even those involved weren't aware of.

And as Lenny heard how miserable Reil was, she felt bad for her.

She seemed so in love with Drix, and the two seemed deeply in love with each other to have gotten pregnant after dating for two months.

“Maybe Zee and Angle are a haunt from his past.” She said her thoughts out and earned a raised brow from Sarah.

“What do you mean?”

She shrugged. “It's just a thought, but maybe, just maybe, Drix isn't as bad as Reil sees him. Maybe there's more to it that she didn't listen to before hopping into the car.”

Sarah nodded. “I've been thinking about that.”

“So what do you think would happen?”

“I'll try talking Reil into giving him a chance to explain.”

She nodded her agreement. They should talk it out or else the both of them might regret it forever.

If a child was involved, then they both should listen to each other, if not for their sake, for the child's sake.

Something came back to her thoughts. Could Sarah be of help? They'd been close recently, almost like how they were as teenagers.

“Sarah.”

“Hmm.”

“Can I sleep over at your place?”

The question seemed to have caught her off guard.

“I promise I won't be a burden.”

She pondered on it for a while, before smiling. “It'd be great. You could get along with Reil and it'd be like a sleepover, like the old times.”

Relief washed through her and it must've been evident in her expression because Sarah reached for her hand, squeezing it.

“You're a big friend of mine, I'd do anything for you.” A small smile formed on her lips and Lenny found herself smiling back.

“Thanks. Same here.”
