Kent's pov:

A guard comes to open my prison cell.

"Come on, Sallow. Lots of transfer paperwork to process. We've got to start early."

But I don't get up. Instead I just sigh, exhausted.

I haven't slept in........ God, I don't remember the last time I slept. I just had no idea what's going on and it's killing me.

They had been planning something. But...... was something still in the works?

"Sallow! Up!"

Groaning, I get to my feet. I don't fight the guard anymore, but instead follows him down the hall to the intake chamber.

Here, they will process me for my exit before I'm loaded into the transport van that will take me to the state penitentiary.

I'm sitting quietly, waiting for someone to do whatever they do, when suddenly I hear a familiar voice.

"You've got to cancel this transport! I swear to god, something is going down!"

"I'm sorry, detective, but we have no control over this. This transport is happening! If you want to stop it, you have to go to someone way above me to get it authorised."

There's some grumbling, and a few more harsh words, but I can't make them out before I hear footsteps stomping away.

And then I clench my teeth as a new energy - pure adrenaline, I know - floods my system.

I just got my first hint.

And if I was going to survive this whatever insane scheme Olivia has planned - I'm going to need to keep my wits about me.

I do precisely what I'm told over the next few hours, signing papers and obeying instructions.

My breath comes cool and easy as I'm loaded into the transport van with two other convicted criminals.

The guard uses a chain from the vans floor to link my ankle shackles, stomach chain, and the cuffs around my wrists.

Looks like Ivan has no luck trying to convince the state to make any changes.

The van starts off and I take a deep breath in through his nose, my shoulders tensing despite my determination to keep calm.

Something's going to happen any second. I can just feel it.

But as those seconds pass....... but nothing happens. My shoulders slump in my bewilderment.

Was...... was Ivan just mistaken? Was he mistaken? Did whatever Olivia and Jack were planning fall through?

Out of nowhere, the blaring sound of a truck's horn breaks through the peaceful white noise of the transport van's engine.

My eyes go wide in shock and surprise before the eighteen - wheeler slams into the side of his van, hurling it across the road.

The driver screams and the guard and the prisoners do as well.

I just clench my teeth and brace myself for impact as the transport flies through the air, glass and debris flying everywhere.
