Olivia's pov:

The silence is tense for moment. About to speak. To defend Jack. To break the silence. Anything. But Kent speaks before I could open my mouth.

"Get it together, Jack. Don't air your dirty laundry at the breakfast table."

To my shock, it work. I watch Jack reel himself back in, almost physically, tucking his emotions away.

The therapist within me wails to see how practiced Jack is at tucking those emotions away.

"Good. Now I'll get you two some breakfast."

Kent pats Jack on the shoulder and turns back to the gallery.

"Jack. I never meant to....."

"But you did, Olivia. Like everyone else, you took his side."

"Jack, I'm still on your side. Your father isn't the enemy -"

"His side is not my side, Olivia!"

I sigh, nodding, wanting to listen rather than correct. But Jack doesn't say anything else.

Kent comes back in, bringing our food. I look at him, giving him a small smile in thanks for the food, but he just looks impassively at me as he slides the plates onto the table.
I look down at my food a frown on my face.

"All right?"

Jack just nods, not moving or saying anything otherwise, I give a little nod too, not looking at either of them.

Kent turns swiftly away from us. I blink at him a little in shock.

"That's it?"

Kent pauses for a second and then comes back to stand at the table, looking down at me, his face blank.

"What?"

"Every morning you tell me what to do with my day? You sent this dress. I mean - if you don't have anything planned for me, you'd usually send  my riding clothes so I can go to the stables. So, am I going somewhere today....?"
I asked him, slightly annoyed and confused.

"Do whatever you want, Olivia, I don't care. I have no tasks for you. If you want to go to the stables, you have spare riding clothes in your room. Wear those."

My mouth falls open slightly as Kent turns without another word and walks away.

"Not so great, is he. Once you've given him all he wants and he no longer has any reason to be nice to you."

"Jack, shut the fuck up. You don't need to be cruel about it!"

"Whatever you say, Olivia."

Jack takes a deep breath then and sits up as well, grabbing his fork.
Jack starts to eat but I don't even touch my food. I've lost my appetite to anger. But, however, as I sit there, I can sense a shift in the energy between us.

I know, somehow, that after just a few minutes, we are on the same team again, despite our differences.

"Have a good day, Jack."
I say, getting up and leaving my untouched food.
I lean over and kiss him on the cheek.
"We'll hangout, tonight?"
