Prologue

 3rd Person POV

"Humor me. Why do you think beings like myself exist?" A sharp scent of nauseating smoke filled the room, but the two who were speaking to each other were already quite accustomed to it. The one who'd asked the question sat in a chair behind a large, sleek desk carelessly distracting himself with a high-brand pen. Despite the sun shining through some of the blinds, the room was almost entirely dark. Blocking out the sunlight with the curtains made the room feel gloomy.

The other male in the room tilted his head down submissively as he answered, "I'm not sure Master. I don't feel I can find a proper answer that will satisfy you." Hearing that, his master chuckled in amusement, "You care too much about what I think. The answer is greed. No matter how much someone tries to suppress it, greed always finds a way to show itself. From treasures they only dream of obtaining or desiring something too much for them to handle. As greed consumes them, they run to us hoping and begging for something they don't deserve."

The being's red eyes narrowed a fraction as he continued and his servant quietly listened, "Prostitutes, gambling, drugs, they want it all in this world. When they come to me I willingly give them the charity despite the lies they weave. Yet, even though I warn them, do they ever listen? It's always the same. I gave them all due dates for the loans but not a single one was ever met. Those pathetic bastards can never and will never quench their thirst for more." After that statement, he stood up as his long tail slithered in the air behind him.

Picking up a file as he did, he continued talking as his servant stood in the same spot, "The last pathetic bastard who found his way to my doors stated that he needed a hefty amount for his younger brother who was terminally ill. He didn't lie but yet who would've guessed that he'd spend that money on high-spec jewelry and a vehicle? Certainly not the ill brother. The recklessness caused his life to end much sooner than was expected."

His dark red eyes closed momentarily and then stared right into his servant's eyes, "In my experience, those who are born with power are made to regulate, pick out, and dispose of those who are bound to throw themselves into their demise." With a sigh, he tossed the files back onto his desk running his hands through his long hair, "Nonetheless, it's becoming more and more boring. I've grown tired of it. Speaking of, have you retrieved him yet?"

Without hesitation, his servant nodded as he turned to direct his Master, "Yes, he's been detained and in waiting. The drug is also ready for testing as well." The taller being stepped to the doors and in no time his servant opened them for him to step out. As they began making their way, a sinister smile on his face grew, "Perfect. It's about time- having to wait two years better have been worth it." His servant's brown eyes blinked slowly as he agreed and they kept going.

Eventually making their way, a large steel door blocked their path. A scanner was right by the door and the taller male leaned over for it to scan his retina. After it was done, the steel door unlocked and they stepped in. The first thing they laid eyes on was a nervous being standing in front of them wearing a lab coat. In their trembling, gloved hand was a vial with two small capsules. The outer case was clear to where a liquid could be seen.

Unamused by their nonsensical shaking, he ripped the vial out of their hands asking impatiently, "Is there anything I must know prior to testing it?" Straightening up in an instant, the being managed a reply, "Y-Yes Sir! If this narcotic is ingested more than the recommended dose then it can be just as deadly as cyanide. This drug is highly potent and if accidentally ingested-!" In an instant, he put his hand up cutting them off, "That's enough. I'll find out the side effects myself. Now shall we?" In fright, all they could do was stand there silently with their head bowed. The only thing they saw were the shoes that passed by.
