Reil took in a few deep breaths as she got down from the car, standing in front of the house she'd grown up in.
The fact she was so nervous made her even more nervous.
She couldn't define the real reason behind such feelings. Her dad wasn't going to eat her raw if she said she didn't want to become the CEO of any of his companies.
A car came to a halt beside her car.
Like she wasn't already on edge, to worsen things, her brother, Bale, had to walk out of the car with his wife, Trisha and their seven year old son, Finn.
He stared at her, the same hatred he always possessed glowing on his expression.
He turned to Trisha. “Why don't you guys head on, I'd meet you.”
Like always, they complied and left.
“I'm surprised you came.” He walked a few steps closer to her.
She was happy her heels were long enough to keep them at eye level, else she might've felt intimidated by his six foot figure standing in front of her.
“Why not? I'm family after all.” She let it come out so nonchalantly, hiding every possible emotion she felt (which she was good at).
He huffed. “Family.”
It was understandable why he didn't consider her family.
Her dad, Sean, had her when Bale was eight. He'd cheated on Sean's mother, Ivy, after they'd had a huge fight and well, the woman he'd slept with was very poor.
She'd said she was pregnant and couldn't take care of the child.
Sean was very much against abortion so he'd offered to take custody of her.
Bale had had to see his mom in tears several times knowing that Reil was like a reminder of the mistake Sean made.
Although Ivy had come to treat Reil as her own, Bale had despised her since her birth.
“Listen, if you want to be family, the best thing is to actually do what would benefit the family.”
His voice was unusually low and feigning care. That made her know he had something up his sleeve.
She ensured to maintain a blank expression, watching his brows pull in an emotion she wasn't sure about.
“Think about your future Reil,” he started, “if you keep up like this, you'd have no future.”
True, but why did he care? What did he want?
“I'll help with the finances, just leave America. You could go to any country of your choice, it's all on me.”
She let out a chortle. “Seriously?” She shook her head in disgust. “Since when did I become a threat that you want to send me away.”
She was of no threat to Bale. He was the CEO of Sean's five companies and had all he wanted so why was he feeling threatened by her suddenly?
He creased his forehead. “Get your brain working Reil, you have no future, if you stay here, you'd only be a disgrace to dad.”
