3 Months Later

I looked down at the little bit of pudge near the bottom of my stomach, smiling widely. I was now about 4 months pregnant.

Sometimes I could feel little fluttering movements in my tummy, nothing major yet, but it still made me so happy knowing that there was a little person inside me and that I was now responsible for another life other than my own.

Asa and I had started going around the shops looking for cute little baby clothes recently, and although it was far too early to determine what the gender of the baby was, I still had fun picking out little unisex outfits. We both did!

"Ace?" I called, setting my book face down on my lap so not to lose my place.

"Yes?" Asa called from the kitchen.

"Can you do me a little favor?"

"Of course," he came into the room and looked at me expectantly.

"Can you run upstairs and get me one of the pillows off our bed? I just really need one at the moment, my back's a little stiff." I'd been sitting in the same position for an hour or so, too engrossed in my book.

Asa nodded and ran upstairs, coming back down a couple minutes later with a pillow. "Thanks," I took it from him and shifted forward a little so I could position it comfortably.

Asa smiled and nodded, "I am so excited for tomorrow,"

Tomorrow, we were going to hear our baby's little heartbeat for the first time. It was a big step in my pregnancy, and to say I was excited was an understatement.

"I know! I just can't wait, it feels so real now." I lifted my shirt up just enough so my little pudge was exposed. "Words cannot explain how excited I am too finally meet this little guy or girl."

"I can't wait either Gem, it's all so exciting!" Asa came over to me and got down on his knees between my legs, gently rubbing my small bump.

"This is so adorable, I have to take a photo," I looked around for my phone and once I finally found it down the side of the sofa, I slid the screen up to the camera app. "Smile!"

Asa kept his hands on my tummy and did as he was told. "Perfect," I showed him the photo.

"You need to send me that, I'm going to set it as my lock screen," he said, cooing a little.

"Of course I will. Hey, earlier I was online shopping and I couldn't resist looking at inspiration ideas for the baby's room.."

Asa shook his head fondly and he laughed a little, "Gem! Come on, we don't even know the gender yet and you're already looking at room ideas!"

"Hey, it's never too early to be prepared! Anyway, I was thinking a nice cream color, with one of those big traditional cribs with a little mobile up above it.. I mean, of course the baby will be sleeping with us for the first couple of weeks so that'll give us plenty of time to decorate,"

Asa nodded, taking everything I was saying in slowly. "I actually do like the sound of that.. And we could get little shelves filled with toys and those glow in the dark stickers.."

I smiled. "And you said it was "too early" to start preparing."

"Hey! I never said it was "too early", you're just putting words in my mouth." Asa chuckled and booped my nose gently. I rolled my eyes playfully.

"Want a cuddle!" I said in a baby voice, holding my arms out and pouting. Asa laughed and he wrapped his arms around me.

The Next Day

I was up bright and early, ready to hear my little son or daughters heartbeat. This was a really big day for Asa and I.

After putting some casual clothes on, not feeling the need to get dressed up, I waited patiently for Asa to get ready so we could go. Well, as patiently as I could.

"Asa! For goodness sake, you're doing this on purpose aren't you? Hurry up!" I stood at the bottom of the stairs, arms crossed.

"Gem one minute, I'm fixing my hair!! And anyway, our appointment isn't for another 45 minutes so you don't have to worry about being late"

"Ugh, you're almost as bad as me, your hair is completely fine. And I know we don't have to be there anytime soon but I was really wondering if we could stop to get some ice cream before hand?"

"Fine, I'm coming!" Asa came running down the stairs, keys in hand. I handed him his coat before putting my own on.

I was so ready for this.
