recap of the last chapter...
After around an hour of pushing, I heard little cries. I knew our second baby had arrived. I took a sigh of relief, but all of a sudden my vision went blurry.. The room felt like it was spinning around me.

"You did it baby! I'm so so proud of you.." I heard Asa say, but his voice sounded far away. "Gemma? Babe, are you okay?"

And with that, everything went black.

ASA'S POV
I looked at Gemma worriedly, stroking her cheek and moving to gently patting it to get her to wake up. "Gemma? Gemma, you have to wake up, you have to see our girls!" I whispered, tears flowing freely down my face.

One of the midwives came over to us and she started to check Gemma's heartbeat. She called the other midwives over and said to us, "we're going to have to hook your girlfriend up to a drip to give her some medicine. She's just passed out with the pain of labor, but if we don't act fast enough she could slip into a coma."

Oh God. Now those were the words I never wanted to hear. "F-fuck." I covered my face and sobbed into my hands.

The midwife offered me some tissues and whispered, "don't worry, the chances of Gemma slipping into a coma are very rare.. And if it's any consolation to you, we have your daughter's all cleaned and weighed. Would you like them brought out?"

"Yes!!" I wiped my eyes and nose with one of the tissues and perked up a little once I heard about the babies. The midwife nodded and whispered something to another woman about a "Baby Butterfield" I smiled to myself a little at that.

As the midwives got the babies, I watched over Gemma carefully as they hooked her up to an IV and put an oxygen mask over her nose and mouth. I stroked her hair and whispered things like, "you have no idea how proud I am of you.. Once you wake up, you can see our baby girls for the first time ever. I know they're going to love their mommy so so much. Thank you Gemma, for bringing my babies into the world. Please wake up soon baby girl, the babies need you; I need you." I kissed her head and buried my face into her hair gently.

"Mr Butterfield?" I lifted my head and turned around, seeing the same midwife who had comforted me holding my two baby girls in her arms. They were both wrapped tightly in the little blankets Gemma and I had packed for them, one wearing a little pink beanie and the other a purple one on their tiny heads.

I felt the tears forming in my eyes again. This was such an emotional time. I held my arms out for the babies and as soon as the nurse placed them carefully there, I had fallen in love. They were so warm and fragile, I couldn't believe Gemma and I had actually created these little beings all by ourselves.

"Baby A is 5 pounds 3, and Baby B is only 5 pounds." The midwife smiled at me. "Any names?"

"Yes, we do actually have names for them." I smiled. "But I'm going to wait until Gemma wakes up to officially name them." The midwife nodded.

"That's great. I'll give you some privacy with your new babies, congratulations to you both." She smiled and walked out of the room. I stared down at the babies in my arms. They both had the cutest wrinkled foreheads and little button noses, their eyes were sealed tightly shut. They had lips exactly like their mommy, little pouty ones.

"Hello babies.. Although you can't see me yet, I'm your daddy.. You may recognise my voice, as I always talked to you when you were in mommy's tummy. Does that ring a bell?" I laughed a little quietly to myself before looking over at Gemma. "Mommy's.. Sleeping right now, but once she wakes up you can cuddles with you. Speaking of mommy, you look exactly like her, with your cute little button noses and pouty little lips." I gently brought them closer to me and kissed their little noses gently one by one.

A few minutes went by of me talking to the babies, and checking up on Gemma. I kept glancing up, hoping I'd find her staring at me with a smile on her face.

GEMMA'S POV

I don't even know what happened while I was out. I kept having these weird 'dreams' I suppose.

I was ready to wake up. I tried my hardest to force my open, but it didn't work. I kept trying and trying until finally it did. I tried to lift my hand so I could take the oxygen mask off to speak.

"Gem?" I heard Asa whisper soothingly. I tried to turn my head to look over at him, as a few midwives came into the room and checked me over again.

I finally felt the oxygen mask being lifted for my face. "C-Can I see my b-babies?" My throat was hoarse, so my voice came out dry and croaky.

"Of course Gem." Asa whispered, as the midwives propped me up carefully onto the pillows and left again. I looked over at Asa and saw him, holding our two tiny babies in his arms.

"Baby A is 5 pounds 3 and baby B is 5 pounds." Asa smiled, carefully setting both babies on my chest. They stirred a little in their sleep, but quickly stopped once they felt the warmth from my body. They were so perfect.

"I told you this when you were asleep, but I don't know if you heard me so I'm just going to say it again. Gemma, words cannot describe how extremely proud I am of you for putting yourself through this and having our babies. Even at the start when we found out there could be some problems with the birth and all that, you pushed through and handled everything brilliantly.. Our girls are so lucky to have someone like you as their mommy. I'm so lucky to have someone like you who has stuck by me for this long. And that's why I want to make things official. Gemma Louise Wilson, will you marry me?"
