Day at the beach

It was a particularly hot day in the middle of August, and there wasn't a single gust of wind to offer any relief. Mia and Charlotte had been startled awake by little footsteps running into the room, so quickly that they didn't have a chance to cover up. The two were lying bare on the bed with the duvet thrown to one side as they struggled to cope with the heat during the night. Lily, only being 5 years old, had thrown herself onto the bed, wiggling in between Mia and her mummy. "Mummy, Mia wake uuuup!" She shouted, shaking them out of their dazed states. Mia turned over, not overly concerned about the fact that she was naked and started tickling Lily. The little one filled the room with her laughter, bringing a huge smile to Char's face as she turned over to watch the interaction.

Violet heard the commotion from her room and decided to venture in, what a mistake that was. "Gross! Why are you both naked?" she exclaimed, stood at the bedroom door covering her eyes. Mia and Charlotte giggled slightly watching the young girl squirm in the doorway. "Sorry, Vi, we were both really hot last night" Mia apologised lightly, still fighting laughter.
"Yes, give us five minutes and we'll get dressed, okay?" Charlotte chimed in, patting Lily on the head to send her downstairs with her sister.
"Okay, but I'm timing you" Violet called out from the hallway. She couldn't get out of that room quick enough, after already being traumatised from catching Mia and Charlotte amidst make out previously.

Mia was ready first and head straight downstairs to start making the girls some breakfast, while Charlotte's phone started ringing. It was Marjorie calling, what on earth could she want on a Saturday morning? "Hey, Marjorie, is everything okay?"
"Yeah everything's fine, my love, I was just thinking that since it's so hot today that maybe we could all go to the beach. You know, since we've all had a bit of a rough few weeks and all" Marjorie suggested cheerfully as she hoped to boost morale a little.
"Oh that sounds like a lovely idea, Marjorie. We have the girls though, you don't mind if we bring them, do you?" Charlotte asked out of politeness, but she knew Marjorie was rather fond of Violet and Lily and didn't get to see them as often as she'd like.
"Course not, my darling! They can play with Carly while the grown ups have a catch up" Marjorie teased.

Charlotte came downstairs joining Mia and the girls in the kitchen, giving each one a kiss. She sat down at the kitchen table and Mia, so thoughtfully, had her coffee and granola with yoghurt and fruit ready. Mia had made the girls a slice of toast each with a hearty portion of fruit, and Charlotte tried not watch as they made a mess pouring their own glass of milk. Mia planted a kiss on her sweetheart's head as she sat down with her own coffee and bowl of granola. "Who was that on the phone, baby?" Mia asked casually, just taking an interest.

"Well" Char spoke as to address all three of her girls at once. "That was Marjorie on the phone, and she has asked us all to go to the beach today." Violet and Lily's faces lit up in excitement. They loved spending time with Marjorie because she always made such a fuss over them, and even after only meeting Reece a handful of times, the girls would get excited about seeing him too.

Reece was always very respectful of the women in his life, including the little ones, hoping to show them the attention and treatment they should always expect from men. He wished that his dad could've effortlessly cared for his mother in the way that he cared for all the women around him. As much as Violet and Lily enjoyed being thrown in the air by the tall blonde, and being carried around on his shoulders towering over everyone, their favourite thing about "Uncle Reece" was that he always sent them home with pocket money.

They were only kids after all, and would eventually learn to appreciate the non-monetary gestures later in life. Charlotte had already taught them to never expect gifts from anyone and to always be grateful, no matter what the circumstance. She was always so proud of her babies, watching them grow into polite and humble young girls. She can remember a conversation she had with them just a few months ago that brought a little a smile to her face, as she saw their enthusiasm for
Auntie Marjorie and Uncle Reece.
