TW: Abortion
Carly was waiting patiently at the end of her drive for Mia, she looked down to her stomach as she heard it rumbling. Her mind was so preoccupied this morning that she forgot to have breakfast. "Bad move, Carly" she thought to herself. The teen was so anxious and her thoughts were racing at 100mph. She still had a big decision to make. Mia swiftly pulled up next to the drive and revved her engine. "Get in loser, we're going shopping" Mia shouted out the window to Carly, in an attempt to keep the mood light and airy. She was hoping Carly would get the reference, and debated with herself whether or not that was insensitive. Carly laughed, phew!
"Ready?" Mia turned to ask Carly. They had just pulled up outside the surgery and Mia could see the young girl fiddling with her rings. Mia reached over to hold her hand trying to calm her down. "Hey, take a deep breath. I've got you, okay?" Carly really was relieved Mia was with her, she knew that she understood how she was feeling because she'd been here before. That story Mia told her the night before, stuck with her, and it made processing this situation easier. The two got out of the car and slowly approached the doors of the surgery linked arm in arm, with Mia using her free hand to gently stroke Carly's arm.
"Okay, Carly, why don't you and your mum take a seat and someone will be right with you." Did the receptionist just refer to Mia as her mum? Carly and Mia looked at each other as they sat down and couldn't hold back their laughter. "Ouch!" Mia just about managed to exhale through her chuckling. The two of them sat in the waiting area now causing a scene with the echoing of their giggling fits.
"Carly Andrews?" The laughter came to a halt immediately at the summoning of the doctor, she looked friendly at least. Carly hesitantly stood up from her seat and turned around to face Mia signalling her a look to go with her. As they went into the doctor's office, she was handed a small specimen cup and ushered into the bathroom. Mia waited with the doctor as the doctor tried to make polite conversation. "So, you must be Carly's mum" she assumed. Not this again. All Mia could think was that, that extra layer of concealer she put on this morning, clearly wasn't enough. She bit her tongue and responded, "No, just a friend actually."
"Okay, so I would estimate you're around 6 weeks pregnant, Carly. Have you thought about your options or would you like me to go through them now?" There was no need, Carly had already made her decision. She had pondered it all night, so much that she hardly slept a wink. As Carly opened her mouth to speak, Mia held out her hand for her to hold, trying to comfort Carly the best she could. Carly took a deep breath as she held onto Mia tightly and said, "I'd like an abortion please."
Carly and Mia stopped at pharmacy on their way out to collect her prescription. The pharmacist explained that each tablet should be taken a day apart and went on to elaborate on what she should expect over the next week or so. It was pretty much what Mia had already told her, she was glad she asked so that she had time to process it. The two got back in the car and sat in silence for a moment, coming to terms with the outcome of the appointment. "I'm really proud of you" Mia said with a comforting smile as she placed her hand on Carly's thigh. "I couldn't have done any of this without you, Mia, thank you!" Carly sniffled slightly, holding back her tears.
Mia made her way back to the nursery with Carly in time for her shift. She had tried to talk the young girl into calling in sick but Carly assured Mia that she'd manage just fine. She hadn't taken her first tablet yet and intended to wait until after work, to avoid causing any suspicion. As Mia turned off the engine, she heard a loud rumble, it appeared to be coming from Carly.
"Carly, have you eaten this morning?" Mia asked out of concern.
"Oh, erm...I guess I just forgot, that's all."
Mia rolled her eyes. She wasn't about to let Carly step through that door on an empty stomach, knowing that her lunch break wouldn't be for at least another 2 hours. "Come on, if we're quick we can make McDonald's breakfast. My treat" Mia offered.
Carly's face lit up in excitement. She loved McDonald's breakfast, and it was a rare treat for her because if she wasn't at work, then she was sleeping in until 11am. As most teenagers do. But then her brows furrowed as she had a realisation.
"Oh but I'd be late for work, and I don't want to get on the wrong side of Marjorie. She can be pretty scary when she wants to be" she said with a smirk.
"Let me worry about Marjorie, okay? You need to eat something."Mia got out her phone and typed out a message to Marjorie.
"Marjorie. Carly will be late getting in this morning, she's not going to explain why. It's my fault, so if you have any issues with it then you take it up with me, got it?"
"🙄 understood."
Marjorie said no more. She would never admit to it, but she was actually a bit intimidated by Mia. Besides, Mia had Carly back at the nursery within half an hour. The speed demon that she is. Mia drove back to Char's for a much needed nap, as she wanted to be well rested for the evening ahead with her sweetheart. She couldn't wait to shower her with love.
