✧The best way to fight off negative thoughts is to never let them take root. Just shift your focus, do something, think of something that has nothing to do with that negativity. Ignore the existence of that negativity; that's how one survive.
That's exactly what Taehyung did. For him, Kang Chanyeol and his harsh words ceased to exist the moment the guy walked past him in the corridor. Kim Taehyung wasn't weak-not weak enough to be scared of someone like Kang Chanyeol. The orphanage had toughened him up. Plenty of Kang Chanyeols had come and gone, leaving no scars because Kim Taehyung knew how to protect himself.
Back at the dorm, he took a long, hot shower, letting the water wash away the remnants of the day. He changed into a new outfit-a gift from Aera. It was brand new, he was sure of that, but she had insisted it was a thrifted from a secondhand store.
"Woah, you're gonna turn heads tonight, make some friends... and maybe a few enemies too," Hoseok teased as he walked into their shared room, fresh from his own change of clothes in the bathroom.
"In the name of friends, you're all I need. I don't have the patience for more," Taehyung quipped, smirking. "And as for enemies... anyone who tries me will regret it. They'll be calling down their own doom." He flipped his hair with a flourish. Scarlet always made him feel unstoppable.
"So it's true what they say-clothes really do make the personality," Hoseok said, shaking his head with a smile. In just one week, he'd already grown used to Taehyung's sass.
"Haha. Now come on, let's go. I don't want to be late for the party," Taehyung urged, grabbing Hoseok's arm and pulling him toward the door. He didn't want to miss a single moment.
Hoseok let him lead, chuckling as they made their way to the car. Soon, they were seated in a sleek, black vehicle, the engine purring as they drove off.
"You remember everything I told you, right?" Hoseok asked, glancing over at Taehyung, who was lost in thought, staring out the window.
"Yeah, yeah. Don't drink anything anyone gives me, stick to soft drinks, and stay away from alcohol," Taehyung recited, almost bored, but with a hint of gratitude in his voice.
"It's not about being strict, Taehyung. You've never had alcohol before, so having your first experience in public isn't the best idea. You don't know your limit," Hoseok explained, his tone gentle, but firm. And Taehyung found himself appreciating the concern.
"Yeah, I get it. And thanks... for looking out for me," Taehyung said softly. Hoseok felt like a family he never had.
"We're the same age. How come you've tried alcohol and I haven't?" Taehyung mumbled, pouting a little.
"I've got my ways," Hoseok replied with a sly grin as he parked the car in front of the building. They stepped out, ready to dive into the night.
"Let's do this!" Hoseok shouted, his excitement matching the thumping beat of the music they could already hear.
