I wouldn't have brought up this topic, but I think it's needed. I've created these characters, so I believe I have the right to defend them if necessary.Jeon Jeongguk is a character I've worked hard on, and it's sad to see him most misunderstood in the story.
First of all, cheating happens when both parties are mutually in a relationship. In this case, Jeongguk was not in a relationship with Taehyung.
For the first few chapters, it was from Taehyung's point of view. So when it was revealed during the engagement that Jisoo was with Jeongguk, the hate toward Jeongguk could be justified. Even Jeongguk can be hatedfor that. But as the story progressed, it became clear that it was just Taehyung’s one-sided love. So how can Jeongguk be called a betrayer or a cheater?
It's the same as loving someone from afar e.g an idol. If he doesn’t know us or our feelings, and we find out he is with someone else, how can we call him a cheater? It doesn’t make sense.
Now, moving on to the other topic—saying that Jeongguk didn’t do anything for Taehyung. He literally took a step to sacrifice his four-year to protect Taehyung, meaning his relationship with Jisoo would remain hidden for four years. In front of the world, he can’t openly declare who his lover is. So what if he hadn’t said it before? At least that was their own choice. They were not bound by chains.
As for saying that he can do something else in committee —no, he didn’t have much of a choice. Remember the medical test they did to check if they had done something sexually ? That wouldn’t have come up before the committee, so neither Taehyung nor Jeongguk could be sure about it. Pushing things further would have created more of a mess. So, Jeongguk did what he thought was necessary at that moment.
He didn’t tell Taehyung about his relationship because I wrote that he was afraid Taehyung wouldn’t accept it. Taehyung wouldn’t let him make the sacrifice. Jeongguk didn’t hide it for himself; he hid it for Taehyung’s well-being.
Regarding protecting Chanyeol, Jeongguk was thinking about them. Yes, they were criminals, but he wasn’t justifying them—he was just looking for ways to help them. When his father spoke to him, Jeongguk finally understood.
Jungkook’s sacrifice didn’t go to waste. His students were also protected since he didn’t reveal that the drugs were forced on him. The students were caught just for drug use, not for being forced to take them.
Yes, they were bad characters, but Jeongguk wasn’t justifying them—he wanted to help. That's just how his character is.
As for Taehyung, he was also protected. The committee only imposed a fine on them. Taehyung’s scholarship wasn’t revoked, and the issue remained confidential. That’s why I didn’t write about Taehyung facing any bullying from other students—because he really didn’t, except for his past experience with Chanyeol.
I made Jeongguk and Jungkook’s personalities completely opposite. Jeongguk is calm, while Jungkook has a fire inside him.
It was clear that Jungkook didn’t let Jeongguk speak. He shut him down every time. Even after two years, it was Jeongguk who called Jungkook first.
In those two years, Taehyung also did well to hide his feelings from Jeongguk, which was the complete opposite of how he acted at the start because now he knew Jeongguk belonged to someone else.
So Jeongguk was always unaware of Taehyung's feelings even after they got close.Even after two years, everything Jeongguk is worried about is Taehyung’s protection, and you can all clearly see that in the story.
Explaining Jeongguk’s character and defending him doesn’t mean I’m belittling any other character. Taehyung suffered from unrequited love. Jungkook is also suffering. But in this case, Jeongguk isn’t at fault. It’s the fault of timing, miscommunication, and misunderstandings, which will surely be resolved.
They aren’t sitting down and communicating properly, but how can they? The situation around them is far from normal.
When I started writing this story, I thought it would be just 40 chapters, but it got longer as I described every little scene in detail. Maybe that’s why it’s becoming a lot for you all to handle.
I’m thankful to all of you for giving time to this story✨. A special thanks to those readers who have put effort into sharing their thoughts❤️❤️❤️. I apologize for not responding to comments due to time constraints, but I’m grateful to you all. By sharing these thoughts, I just wanted to justify Jeongguk’s actions, which I feel I failed to do properly in my writing. Maybe my writing lacked the potential to truly justify Jeongguk.
And also, thanks to those readers who pointed out my mistakes, which I’ll share here:
1. In first chapter, I wrote Yoongi as the elder brother of the Jeon twins, and after that in one chapter I wrote Yoongi as younger brother of the Jeon twins(a typing mistake).
Yoongi is actually older.
In this timeline, Yoongi is 29, the twins and Jisoo are 27, Jimin is 25, and Hoseok and Taehyung are 20 (though Hoseok is a few months older than Taehyung).
2. There were also some typos: in the hospital scene during the accident, I mistakenly wrote Jeongguk instead of Jungkook💀. In one chapter, I accidentally wrote Taehyung as Taekook🤡 (I think I was high on Chanyeol’s drugs), and in the last chapter, I wrote “his baby” as “their baby.”🫣 as jungkook was thinking about Taehyung invisible baby💀.
This was just my rant. If you’ve read this, thank you. I’ll delete it later.
