✧“Where are we going?” Taehyung's voice barely escaped his throat, thick with uncertainty as the car rumbled to life beneath them. His fingers gripped the seat beside him, eyes darting to Jungkook's steady hands on the wheel. The rhythmic purr of the engine did little to slow the whirlwind in his chest, his pulse thrumming in time with the road beneath the tires.
Jungkook's gaze remained fixed ahead, shadows cast by the passing streetlights playing across his face,“To my aunt’s,” he said, his tone unnervingly casual.
Taehyung blinked, the response failing to ground him as his chest tightened. “Your aunt? Why?” His voice cracked, rising with the panic coiling inside him. “Oh my god, what are we going to say to her?” His mind raced, a flood of questions and scenarios. What would she think? How could they explain this?
The corners of Jungkook’s mouth tugged upward into a soft chuckle. “Relax, Taehyung,” he murmured, his voice a low hum, meant to soothe. “She’s already asleep.” But as his eyes flicked to Taehyung for just a moment, the playful curve of his lips betrayed the calm in his voice.
Taehyung’s brow creased, confusion quickly giving way to irritation. “Why are you smiling like that?” he demanded, his voice sharpening as he shot Jungkook a heated sideways glance. His fists balled up in his lap.
Jungkook’s grin only widened, a teasing spark lighting in his eyes. “I just remembered something,” he said, voice light, almost as if he were holding back a laugh. “Your sneaky little powers, little birdie.”
Taehyung froze, his heartbeat skipping, then hammering harder. The nickname—his nickname—fluttered through his mind like an uninvited guest. Only a select few knew it, or so he thought. He swallowed thickly, dread creeping up his spine. “W-Where the hell did you hear that?” His voice wavered, disbelief and embarrassment crashing into each other.
“Jungkook, you—” He cut himself off, staring hard at Jungkook. “Are you a stalker?”
Jungkook’s laugh was soft, yet it rippled with amusement, filling the small space of the car. “Not a stalker,” he said, slowing the vehicle as the lights of their destination came into view. “Just… turns out you’re a bit infamous for that name.”
Heat surged up Taehyung’s neck, his cheeks burning as his mind scrambled to process Jungkook’s words. His nickname wasn’t supposed to be known, least of all by Jungkook.
The car glided to a gentle stop in front of a quiet porch, the stillness of the night enveloping them like a comforting blanket. For a heartbeat, neither of them spoke.
“What if she’s not asleep?” Taehyung's, his eyes darting nervously toward the house that loomed ahead, shadows dancing across its darkened windows. His mind spiraled with anxious thoughts, envisioning the awkwardness of facing Jungkook’s aunt and struggling to find the right words to explain why he was there.
