It was late and Drix was getting back from work. He was exhausted as work had been really stressful.

He leaned his head on the window of the car as the driver stopped the car as it read red on the traffic lights.

He squeezed his eyes shut, seeing images of him and Reil holding their child and smiling.

He was really excited to be a father. It felt like the best gift in the world and he couldn't help but wonder why his father would ever trade a child for some woman he loved.

He hadn't met his child yet, but he knew he would never trade his child for some other woman he just met somewhere.

But his dad already had a wife and a child he'd known for eight whole years.

He opened his eyes when he felt the car moving.

What he knew was that he could never be like his dad.

He loved Reil and she'd be the only woman in his life. And he'd love his child with everything in him.

He drew his brows together when he sighted a familiar figure in the night light.

Ivy? What was she doing alone at night?

She looked miserable. Her hair was packed in a very messy ponytail and her eyes were swollen like she'd cried.

He sat up straight. “Stop the car in front of that woman.” He ordered the driver, who did exactly that.

Ivy didn't seem to notice that a car had stopped beside her as she just kept walking.

Even when he got out of the car, she didn't seem to notice his presence.

“Ivy.” He jogged towards her, as she stopped then turned to him in surprise.

“Drix? What are you doing here?” She sounded like she'd met him in an illegal gathering or something.

“I was just heading home from work.” He gestured to his car and she nodded, “what are you doing here?” He asked her question back to her.

She sighed, then turned to her feet. “I just wanted to take a walk to cool off my mind.”

“Cool off your mind?” She looked like she had something she needed to tell someone and it was eating her inside since she wasn't letting it out.

“Why don't we see if there's any nearby restaurant that'll be open by this time then we can have something to eat.”

She nodded and they both walked to a coffee shop.

She took her seat first then he took the one opposite her, a table separating them.

The coffee shop was small and looked unkept but that was the only open place at that time.

A female approached them, an apron that was covered in stains was wrapped around her body.

“Would you like to order anything?” Her smile was obviously feigned.

She looked like their presence had disturbed her peace or something.

Maybe she'd planned on closing early but they'd disturbed that with their presence.

He couldn't care less as everywhere was empty and the best place to talk since they won't have anyone disturbing or distracting them.

“Two cups of coffee.” Honestly, he wouldn't order anything at such a place but he sensed that if he didn't, she'd send them away.

“Black or with sugar or milk?”

“Black.” Anything to get the girl away from their presence.

She left, and Ivy's gaze hadn't left her fidgeting fingers as she looked close to tears.

He didn't say anything and just decided to give her space in case she'd open up first.

After a moment, the girl came back with two cups of coffee on a tray.

She placed one in front of Ivy and the next in front of him, her brows forming a v line.

“I'll come check on you to see if you want a refill.” But she sounded like she'd throw him under a bus if he asked for a refill.

He just nodded so she'd please just leave them alone.

Ivy reached for her cup of coffee and began fidgeting with the handle.

Okay, he knew something was really wrong for her to be so hurt, but what was it?

Could he seriously be more patient? If she didn't speak at any moment, he might have to say something.

After a few minutes of silence, he finally broke it, “is something wrong?”

She stared at him, her eyes filled with tears.

“Ivy,” her name came out soft in his tone, “what happened?”

She sniffed in. “What would I tell her?” Her voice was shaky and low.

He was confused at first, but then it clicked that she was probably talking about Reil.

He drew his brows in concern. “What do you mean?”

“Reil,” she sniffed in, a drop of tear falling down her cheek, “how would she see me?”

At that moment, he was really flummoxed. “She sees you as a great person.”

Wasn't that the right thing to say?

Her head fell, and she covered it with her palms, sobbing into it.

He wasn't sure of what to do. He reached for her hand across the table, then pulled it from her already red face.

He held her hand in his. “What's wrong Ivy? Please talk to me.”

She sniffed in, and he reached his pocket with his other hand, pulling out a handkerchief from it and handing it to her.

She took it with her other hand that he wasn't holding, and began drying her tears from her face.

“Would you tell me what happened?” His tone was soft and inviting.

She took in a few deep breaths. “I-I,” she started crying again.

Now he was very interested as to what it could be that made her act so much in pain.

He rubbed her palms with his thumb, encouraging her to continue. “It's alright, you should let it all out.”

“I,” she sniffed in again and geez, he'd never felt so much suspense from someone.

Would she please just tell him already? He wanted to shout that she should just say it, but he willed himself to calm down and instead just continued rubbing her palm.

“You should say it, maybe it'll help relieve whatever it's caused to you.” He ensured to sound calm and composed while his body screamed at her to please just tell him.

Finally, she inhaled and seemed like she was about to talk, but that was when the stupid waitress girl decided to walk in and interrupt them.

“Would you like a refill?”

He'd never felt like throwing someone out the window like he felt at that moment, but he calmed himself and smiled.

“No, thank you.”

She nodded then left, and he turned back to Ivy hoping she hadn't changed her mind and decided to not tell him anymore.

There was another moment of silence and he wanted to scream at her to just let him know.

When his patience seemed to be wavering, she finally spoke.

“I am the cause of Reil's mom's death.” Okay so that was not what he'd expected to hear.

His hand involuntarily left hers as he stared at her with widened eyes.

“What?”
