“Where are you heading too?” Drix's voice called from behind, and she stared at him through the mirror as he strolled towards her.

“Ivy invited me to have dinner with her at a restaurant.” She explained and watched his expression shift.

It had something to do with her mom. She was certain.

Ivy had never invited her to a restaurant to eat. Just the two of them.

And when she'd called, Reil suspected it had something to do with her mom, but she wasn't so certain.

But seeing Drix's concerned look, she knew it was her mom.

Maybe she was going to see her mom. The thought of that made her slightly nervous, excited and annoyed.

Nervous to see a woman she didn't know for twenty-seven years of her life.

Excited to see who her mom would end up being.

And annoyed that her mom didn't ever visit for the whole twenty-seven years.

So she'd decided to look extra good to meet with her mom.

She'd dressed in a wine v-neck off-shoulder length gown that lay a few inches below her butt and accentuated her curves, showing a not-so-decent amount of her cleavage.

She had brushed her still-dyed hair in smooth waves over her shoulders, and applied make-up to look even more beautiful.

She wore an expensive diamond necklace and earrings, then took her wine purse and topped it all up with wine high heels.

“You look nice, more like you're going to a party than a dinner with Ivy.” He said it in a tone that lacked humor, but she wasn't going to dwell on that.

She stared at her stomach in the mirror. Her bump was already growing fast.

She was certain that at any moment, she'd have a very big belly.

He wrapped an arm around her waist and stared at her stomach in the mirror.

“I want you to know something Reil,” he whispered as his palm gently rested on her stomach, “that I love you and our child so much.”

“We both love you too.” Her hand held his that was on her belly.

Yep, she already loved their family.

Reil was a little disappointed when she walked into the five star restaurant Ivy had booked for them, and saw no sight of any other woman that wasn't Ivy.

Hmm, maybe she was just late.

Ivy looked exhausted and like she'd been crying.

What was going on?

“Hey Reil,” Ivy's gaze landed on Reil's stomach, “it's bigger than the last time I saw you.”

She rubbed her belly, then took a seat opposite her. “Yeah.”

A waiter approached them, took their orders then left, arriving with their food and placing it professionally in front of them.

Once he was gone, she stared at Ivy in askance and stared around to see if her mom was still coming.

But she doubted that. Maybe Ivy calling her didn't have anything to do with her mom.

“I don't think you've ever bought Bale to a restaurant,” it was supposed to lighten the mood, instead Ivy's face wrinkled more.

The wrinkles on her face had multiplied since the last Reil left to Sarah's.

She looked more like ten years older than ten years younger than her original age.

“Ivy,” now Reil was concerned as to what could've caused Ivy so much stress, “come on, talk to me.”

Immediately, Ivy burst into tears, dabbing her face with a handkerchief she had on her hand to wipe away the tears.

What had she said wrong? Or was it something Ivy did?

She sat up straight, maintaining a neutral expression as she watched Ivy finish sobbing.

“I-I'm sorry.” Okay, she certainly did a bad thing.

“What did you do?” She didn't mean to sound so stern, but at the moment she didn't want to pretend that she'd forgive Ivy no matter what she'd done.

Ivy began spitting it all out, and when Reil realized it had something to do with her mom (whose name she just realized to be Hazel), her full concentration spiked.

Ivy began from all the terrible things she did to Hazel to her dad's unfaithfulness, then she stopped to sob again.

Reil didn't say a word and just stared at Ivy, hoping and praying the conversation was not going to take the turn she guessed it was taking.

After a few minutes of sobbing, Ivy continued and Reil's blood immediately went cold.

She may never have known her mom, but she knew that the stories Ivy had told her weren't fully true.

Ivy continued sobbing, and she felt moisture in her eyes.

“When I went to Australia last time,” she sniffed in, “I went to visit her grave.”

As much as it hurt Reil that she never got to see her mom because of Ivy, she couldn't hold on to the grudge.

Ivy may have been terrible to her mom, but she also tried to be a good mom to her (even though it was because of the guilt she felt from Hazel's death).

She wasn't sure if she could live the rest of her life without seeing Ivy in a different way.

Like she was such a terrible person when she was younger and was the cause of someone's death.

But she couldn't also hold it on her anymore.

“You did a bad thing,” she started, sounding way too mature even in her own ears, “but I can't hold on to you for what you did twenty years ago.”

Ivy's head shot up, and red eyes from tears widened in surprise. “You're going to forgive me.”

She inhaled a sharp breath. “I don't think I can hold a grudge on you for the rest of my life.”

Ivy sniffed in, looking very surprised. “But w-why are you forgiving me?”

Even she wasn't sure why she was forgiving her so easily.

Ivy did a bad thing, but Ivy had also done tons of good things for her.

She had tried her best to be a great mother-figure in her life, so if she was holding on to the past, she may never enjoy the future.

And she also didn't want her child to not enjoy life with a grandma. Even though the real grandma was dead.

“I need to gather my thoughts.” She rose to her feet, ‘“I'll call you when I get home.”

Ivy nodded in understanding and Reil left, not caring that neither ate their food.
