Drix pulled Reil into a comforting hug as soon as she walked in, tears streaming down her face.
He'd feared how she'd take the news and had kept pacing around the house since she left.
Now that she was back, he knew she needed comfort.
It must've been really painful to hear that the woman she took to be a mother to her was the cause of her real mom's death.
He just hoped she'd be able to forgive Ivy, because he knew that Ivy wasn't planning on forgiving herself.
Her bump was limiting their hug, but he just felt like she needed to let it all out as her head was buried on his chest, her tears soaking his shirt.
She gently rubbed her back, whispering in her hair, “it's alright, let it all out.”
“It doesn't feel real,” she said, amidst the sobbing, “Ivy doesn't look anything like the woman twenty years ago.”
“I know, I know.” He continued rubbing her back.
She pulled apart to stare into his eyes, but he saw more pain in it than anger. “Did you know about it?”
He nodded, hoping she wouldn't be annoyed that he hadn't told her. “I found out last week, but promised Ivy I won't tell you till she did.”
She nodded in understanding and he felt relieved that she wasn't taking it to heart.
He wrapped an arm around her shoulder and led her to the couch where she took a seat and he sat beside her.
“I never got to meet my mom.” She sniffed in, “and I always thought it was because she was heartless.”
He gently rubbed her shoulder, and she rested her head on his shoulder.
He knew he should tell her comforting words and say things like ‘Ivy wasn't at fault’ or that ‘Ivy has repented’, but he felt like she wanted to talk rather than listen.
“But I don't get why she'd paint my mom as such a bad person when that isn't who she really was.” She whispered, and he was sure her eyes were closed.
“She never saw me grow.” She sighed, “that's sad.” Then her hand rubbed her belly.
“I can't imagine not seeing my child grow.” Her voice was becoming lower, like she was dozing off, “that's the saddest thing to ever happen to a mom.”
Her stomach growled and she lifted her head, then stared at him.
“I forgot we didn't eat anything.” She said.
“Why?” He asked in concern. Had she stomped out of the restaurant in annoyance?
“I had to gather my thoughts,” like she read his mind, she quickly added, “I wasn't mean to her. Actually, I think I'll be able to forgive.”
He widened his eyes, and moved his head backwards to stare at her in surprise. “You're forgiving her.”
She sighed, then stared at her laps. “It's a very painful experience, but it happened twenty years ago and I can sense that Ivy has already repented.”
He had not expected her to forgive Ivy so soon. “Wow, that's such a surprise.”
She nodded, and pursed her lips.
He sensed she was going to cry again, so he pulled her to his chest. “You're a great soul.”
She started crying again. “I feel very bad for my mom, and I feel like I'm betraying her by forgiving Ivy so— so, easily.”
“I think your mom would've wanted you to turn out to be a great person that'll forgive Ivy even after what she did.” He hoped he was saying the right words.
“I just feel like everyone was so mean to her till her grave.” She was sobbing so much at that moment, it made him dejected.
“Ivy always used her, and when she needed surgery for her sister, Ivy didn't give her and my dad gave her with the condition that she'd have to have sex with him.”
He also thought that was really mean of them both.
Like, they were billionaires, they could've just given her the money, why the heck did he have to be selfish and have sex with her till he gave her the money.
“And even till her grave, she pleaded to just have a word with her child, and still, Ivy was so mean to her.” She continued sobbing.
“Which is why she'll be more proud to know you have become such a great and forgiving person.” He planted a peck on her head.
“You think?” She sniffed in.
“I know.” He gently pulled her from him, cupping her cheeks and raising her head so they could make eye contact.
“Your mom would be pleased wherever she is,” he used his thumb to wipe the tears that were on her cheeks, “and she'll also be happy that you didn't miss out on the mother-figure in your life.”
It looked like that was what she wanted to hear and he felt satisfied that he could be a comfort to her.
He recalled what she'd said. “Why don't I go see what I can make for us to eat, okay?”
She nodded.
He left her cheeks, then rose to his feet and headed to the kitchen.
Reil was really a great person to have forgiven so easily.
Here he was. Unable to forgive his dead dad for twenty years, while she forgave someone in a day.
He hoped their child took over her.
