Finally, she turned toward me, a wide smile on her face. “Congratulations,” she said, her eyes twinkling. “She’s pregnant.”

My heart dropped. I felt the room spin for a second. Pregnant? No, it couldn’t be. This had to be some kind of misunderstanding. I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came out as I stared at the doctor in disbelief.

I stood there, frozen. The word “pregnant” echoed in my mind, louder than everything else. I glanced at Shivangi, who seemed equally stunned, her wide eyes locked on the doctor, as if trying to process what had just been said.

“No, there must be some mistake,” I finally managed to stammer. My voice was shaky, my mind racing. “Pregnant? How...?”

The doctor’s smile softened. “It’s natural to be surprised, but all the symptoms fit. Vomiting, mood swings, no period... it’s not uncommon for women to experience these signs early on.”

I could feel a lump forming in my throat. I wanted to deny it, to say that it wasn’t possible. But somewhere i didn't knew if that bastard had used the protection or not and i am too scared to ask Shivangi about it.

Shivangi finally broke the silence, her voice barely a whisper, “Pregnant…?” She looked at me, eyes filled with confusion and fear. I knew this wasn’t what she expected. It wasn’t what either of us expected.

I swallowed hard, trying to think of something to say, something to comfort her. But instead, I found myself turning to the doctor. “Are you sure? I mean, could it be something else? She’s been under a lot of stress, maybe…”

The doctor tilted her head slightly, still smiling. “We can do further tests to confirm, but based on her symptoms, I’m confident in the diagnosis.”

Shivangi’s hands were trembling, and I instinctively reached out to hold them. I could see the panic in her eyes, the questions swirling in her mind. I wasn’t ready to believe this, but I couldn’t ignore the dread rising inside me either.

I wanted to tell her it would be okay, that we’d figure this out together. But part of me was still trying to convince myself that this wasn’t happening.

Author's POV

Rocky stood in stunned silence, the doctor’s words ringing in his ears – she’s pregnant. His mind raced, struggling to process the weight of what he’d just heard. The door shut quietly behind the doctor, leaving only him and Shivangi in the stillness of her bedroom. The air felt thick, almost suffocating. He glanced over at her, sitting on the edge of the bed, her head bowed, her hands gripping the fabric of her dress as though it were the only thing keeping her grounded. She looked so small, so vulnerable, her face drained of color. For a moment, he just watched her, unsure of how to even begin addressing the reality that had just been laid out before them.

Her ex-husband’s child. The thought hit him again, harder this time. A whirlwind of emotions surged through him—confusion, anger, even a pang of jealousy he wasn’t ready to confront. But none of that mattered right now. What mattered was Shivangi, sitting there in front of him, clearly terrified, her world turned upside down. Rocky knew that this wasn’t just about the baby. It was about everything she had been through, all the pain, the abandonment, and now, this.

Swallowing his own turmoil, he crossed the room quietly, his footsteps barely making a sound on the soft carpet. He crouched down in front of her, searching her face for any sign of what she was feeling. But she didn’t meet his eyes. Her gaze was distant, lost somewhere between disbelief and fear. His heart clenched painfully at the sight of her like this—Shivangi, who had always been so strong despite everything life had thrown at her, now looking as though she might shatter at any moment.
