"A-Alvaro, it's me..."
"Tiana? What are you doing here?" maingat kong tanong. I lowered the flashlight away from her face.
Nanatili siya sa kinatatayuan. Parang nabato.
I turned off the light switch.
I was waiting if she'd explain why she's in front of my quarter. Gayong batid niya palang wala dapat ako rito ngayon. Or...
When I turned to her again, I just realized she's still wearing her usual farm-work attire—long-sleeved blouse, slim fit jeans, and leather boots. She's even holding a straw hat on her right hand.
Tatiana cleared her throat. However, I noticed her slowly breathing in and out—as if calming down herself while thinking.
The silence stretched more between us. As much as I wanted to ask her again, I didn't say anything to prevent myself from saying things that would make her uncomfortable or upset.
She exhaled sharply.
"The night I went home d-drunk, were you there?"
I leaned on the door frame and put my hands inside my pants' pocket.
Ikaw ba 'yon? Ikaw ang umalalay sa 'kin?"
I put my lips together to dampen it a little. I cannot lie to her anymore. "Yes..." I whispered.
Her eyes widened. Amidst the soft light and little brightness reaching her, I noticed her cheeks colored. "I-It wasn't a d-dream then..." Napayuko si Tatiana, nahihiya. "H-Hindi malinaw sa 'kin pero i-ikaw... Alvaro, ikaw ang kausap ko?"
Sinigawan, inaaway, tinulak, niyakap, hinalikan... I filled air inside my lungs. "Ako nga. Inalalayan kita hanggang sa silid. You could not walk nor stand properly.
"Did you stay? Pagkahatid mo sa 'kin s-sa... sa kuwarto?" she asked, defeated—tanggap na kung ano man ang maging isagot ko.
"I stayed... until I was sure you're sleeping properly."
Napapikit siya nang mariin. Yet gradually, she raised her head.
"I was not dreaming that time...?" nanghihina niyang tanong. Lahat iyon... Totoong kausap kita?"
I nodded.
"H-H-Hinalikan din kita...?" There was a hint of begging in her voice.
Begging for what? Begging that it wasn't true? That she didn't do it? Begging that I deny it?
