As the Russo siblings stepped out of the grand doors of the Great Hall of Hogwarts, they felt a strange mixture of excitement and weight on their shoulders. The meeting with Harry and the leaders had been intense—discussions of Mirithis, new continents, and the future of the magical world. The reality of leaving Earth and starting fresh on a new planet was sinking in.
They had their enchanted trunks in hand, each one shrunken down for easy transport, and now it was time to return home and break the news to their parents.
With a flick of his wand, Justin opened the portal back to their home in New York, the swirling magic pulling them through space and across the ocean in an instant. In a flash, they were back in the cozy, familiar surroundings of the Waverly Sub Station. The comforting smell of bread and coffee greeted them, a stark contrast to the magnitude of what they had just been a part of.
The restaurant was quiet, the only sound coming from their parents, Jerry and Theresa Russo, who were sitting at the kitchen table, enjoying a quiet moment.
Theresa, as always, was the first to notice something was off. "You three are back sooner than I expected," she said, her eyes narrowing as she noticed their serious expressions. "What's going on? Did the meeting go okay?"
Alex, not one to beat around the bush, stepped forward. "Mom, Dad, we've got big news. It's... well, it's pretty huge, actually. We're going to have to leave—soon."
Jerry, always calm in the face of magical news, set down his sandwich. "Leave? What do you mean? Is this another wizard thing?"
Max, for once, was serious. "Yeah, it's a wizard thing. And a magical creature thing. Basically, it's an everyone thing. Magic is dying, and we're moving to a new planet."
There was a long silence as their parents processed the news. Theresa looked stunned. "A new planet?" she repeated slowly. "As in, leaving Earth? What about the shop? What about everything here?"
Justin sat down next to her, pulling out the informational packet Harry had given them. "We've found a new planet, Mirithis. It's in a whole different galaxy, and it's full of magic. If we stay here, we won't survive—magic is fading. But if we move to Mirithis, we can live in a place where magic is abundant."
Jerry rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I knew something like this could happen. The magical world's been in trouble for years now." He glanced at the packet, reading through it carefully. "So, this is our only choice?"
Alex nodded. "We're packing up everything. We'll be taking the restaurant, our stuff, and whatever we can bring to make the new place feel like home."
Max jumped in, trying to lighten the mood. "It's not all bad. I mean, think of it! A whole new world! Who knows what kind of magical creatures we'll find there?"
Theresa shook her head, still in disbelief. "I never thought I'd be packing up to leave the world behind."
Jerry reached over and put a hand on her shoulder. "It's not going to be easy, but we'll have each other. And it sounds like this Mirithis could be an amazing new start. We'll pack up what matters—the memories, the important things—and we'll make this new world our home."
The Russo family didn't waste any more time. Once the decision was made, they sprang into action, each member going to their respective rooms to begin packing. The reality of leaving Earth, their shop, and their home was heavy on their minds, but they knew they needed to focus on what was most important to them.
Packing Up Memories
Alex was the first to reach her room. She stood in the middle of it, staring at the walls covered in posters, the bed filled with clothes she didn't even wear, and the clutter of trinkets scattered across her dresser. With a sigh, she opened her enchanted trunk and began packing.
She started with the essentials—her spellbook, her wand, and a few favorite outfits. But as she moved around her room, she found herself pausing at old photos and memories from her magical adventures with Justin and Max. There was a framed picture of the three of them on their first family vacation, and her favorite enchanted bracelet, a gift from her parents. She packed the photo albums, knowing she couldn't leave those behind. These were the memories she would need to hold on to.
In Justin's room, things were far more organized. He had always been methodical, and this moment was no different. He carefully packed his spellbooks, research papers, and magical devices he had invented over the years. He placed his favorite magical artifacts into the trunk, along with a few muggle items that he couldn't live without—like his chess set.
As he packed, he came across an old journal from his younger days, full of notes about spells he'd created and projects he had never quite finished. He smiled to himself, deciding to bring it along. Who knew? Maybe Mirithis would give him the inspiration he needed to complete them.
Max, ever the chaotic one, was throwing things into his trunk with abandon. Random magical items, pranks he had stashed away, and clothes were all tossed in without much thought. But even Max had his moments of reflection. He picked up an old, worn-out toy wand—his first wand from when he was just a kid—and packed it carefully into the trunk. He might not always take things seriously, but his memories mattered to him, too.
The Family Comes Together
Later that evening, the Russo family gathered in the living room, surrounded by their trunks. Jerry had brought up old magical items from the basement, things he hadn't used in years but now felt compelled to take with them. Theresa had packed her favorite photos, family keepsakes, and a few special items from the kitchen—small reminders of the life they had built together.
The room was filled with a quiet sense of finality. They were ready to leave, but that didn't make it any easier.
Theresa sighed, sitting down next to her children. "I can't believe we're really leaving Earth. It feels... surreal."
Jerry nodded, placing a hand on her shoulder. "It's not going to be easy. But we'll make Mirithis our new home. We've always made it work, no matter where we were."
Alex, trying to lift the mood, smiled at her parents. "It's just another adventure, right? And this time, it's a whole new world."
Justin added, "We'll have magic, and we'll have each other. That's what's important."
Max, grinning, said, "And who knows what kind of trouble we can get into in Mirithis?"
They laughed, though it was tinged with the bittersweetness of leaving behind the familiar. But the Russo family knew that wherever they went, as long as they were together, they could face whatever challenges came their way.
As they sat together in the dim light of their living room, surrounded by packed trunks and memories of their lives on Earth, the Russo family prepared for the next great adventure—one that would take them far beyond the world they had always known.
