The next morning came too soon, and with it, the weight of their decision. Y/N could feel the tension in the air as they got dressed for the public appearance, a high-profile charity event that would undoubtedly be crawling with reporters, fans, and cameras.
Taehyung had texted them early, assuring them that they'd get through it together, but the nerves were still hard to shake. Y/N stared at their reflection in the mirror, adjusting their outfit for what felt like the hundredth time. They had agreed to stop pretending, but would the world believe it?
There was a soft knock at the door, and Y/N knew it was Taehyung before they even answered. He stood in the doorway, dressed in a sleek black suit, his usual effortless charm radiating from him. But his eyes were softer, more focused on Y/N than ever before.
"You look amazing," he said with a small smile.
Y/N tried to return the smile, but it faltered. "Thanks. I just... I'm nervous."
Taehyung stepped closer, gently taking their hands. "I know. I am too. But we're in this together, remember?"
Y/N nodded, feeling some of the tension in their shoulders ease. "Together."
As they walked to the car waiting to take them to the event, Y/N couldn't help but feel the weight of the cameras that would soon be pointed at them. The world was watching, and everything they did would be analyzed and dissected.
The ride to the event was quiet, both of them lost in their thoughts. When they arrived, the flashing lights of the paparazzi were blinding, and the noise from the crowd was deafening. Taehyung stepped out first, offering his hand to help Y/N out of the car.
As soon as they were together, the cameras went wild, the flashes rapid as they made their way down the red carpet. Taehyung's arm found its way around Y/N's waist, holding them close, a picture-perfect couple. But this time, it didn't feel like a performance. There was no act, no script to follow—just them.
Y/N forced a smile for the cameras, but inside, their heart was racing. They could feel Taehyung's steady presence beside them, grounding them, but the attention was overwhelming. Reporters shouted questions, asking about their relationship, about the kiss, about the future. Taehyung answered some of them with his usual charm, but Y/N stayed quiet, feeling the pressure of it all.
Then, out of the crowd, a reporter called out a question that made Y/N's blood run cold.
"Taehyung, is it true that your relationship with Y/N is just for publicity? There have been rumors that this is all a PR stunt."
Y/N froze, their heart pounding in their chest. They hadn't expected this question, not so directly, not in front of everyone. The crowd seemed to hush for a moment, waiting for Taehyung's response.
Taehyung glanced at Y/N, his eyes full of concern, and then turned back to the reporter. His voice was calm but firm as he answered.
"No," he said, his arm tightening around Y/N's waist. "Our relationship is real. I understand there's been a lot of speculation, but the truth is, we're not pretending. We care about each other."
The reporter didn't seem satisfied. "But what about the rumors that it all started as part of a deal with your management?"
Taehyung's jaw tightened, and Y/N could see the frustration in his eyes. "It doesn't matter how it started. What matters is what's real now. And what's real is that we're together, and we're figuring it out."
Y/N could feel the tension in the air, the weight of the crowd's eyes on them. They weren't sure what to do, but before they could say anything, Taehyung turned to them, his expression softening.
"You don't have to say anything," he whispered, just loud enough for them to hear. "We'll handle it."
Y/N nodded, feeling a wave of relief wash over them. Taehyung was handling it. They didn't have to face this alone.
The rest of the event was a blur, filled with forced smiles and polite conversations. But Y/N couldn't shake the feeling of doubt that the reporter's question had sparked. The world might believe them, but the truth was more complicated. How long could they keep this up?
As the event wound down, and they were finally alone in the car again, Y/N turned to Taehyung, the question that had been weighing on them all night finally escaping their lips.
"Do you think we're making a mistake?"
Taehyung looked at them, his expression unreadable for a moment. Then, he shook his head slowly. "No. I don't think we're making a mistake. I think we're just scared. And that's okay. But this—us—it's real, Y/N. And that's all that matters."
Y/N wanted to believe him, but the doubt still lingered. They had stopped pretending, but the world didn't know that. And maybe, deep down, Y/N wasn't sure they believed it yet either.
As they pulled up to the hotel, Taehyung reached for their hand, his touch gentle but reassuring. "We'll figure it out. Together."
Y/N nodded, feeling the weight of his words. They had made a decision to stop pretending. Now they just had to figure out what came next.
