Fragile Allies

The day of the preliminary hearing arrived quicker than Taehyung and Y/N had anticipated. Dressed in sharp black suits, they walked into the courtroom side by side, exuding confidence despite the tension tightening in the air. Jihoon was already seated, his lawyer whispering in his ear. He shot them a venomous glare, but Taehyung didn't flinch.

The courtroom was packed with reporters and fans alike, all eager to see how the drama would unfold. Taehyung's lawyer began with a powerful statement, dismantling Jihoon's claims of defamation with precision. As evidence of Jihoon's fabrications was presented, Y/N glanced at Taehyung. His calm demeanor reassured them, but they could see the storm brewing behind his eyes.

The judge adjourned the session after reviewing the initial arguments, giving both sides a few days to submit further evidence. Outside the courthouse, the crowd erupted into a frenzy of questions.

"How do you feel about the case so far?"
"Do you think Jihoon has any chance of winning?"
"Taehyung, is your relationship still strong despite all this?"

Taehyung paused briefly, turning to face the reporters. "Truth always wins. That's all I have to say."

As they drove home, Y/N broke the silence. "Do you think this will ever end?"

Taehyung sighed, his hand gripping the steering wheel. "It will. But only if we stay strong and don't let him intimidate us."

That evening, they received a surprise visitor—Jihoon's former assistant, Minji. Nervously twisting her hands, she explained, "I quit working for Jihoon after the press conference. I couldn't handle being part of his schemes anymore."

"What do you want from us?" Taehyung asked, skeptical.

Minji took a deep breath. "I want to help you. Jihoon is planning something worse—he's gathering more fake evidence and trying to bribe people to testify against you."

Y/N leaned forward, their eyes narrowing. "And why should we trust you now?"

"I don't expect you to trust me," Minji admitted. "But I brought proof." She handed over a USB drive. "This has emails and recorded conversations of Jihoon discussing his plans. Use it however you see fit."

Taehyung and Y/N exchanged a glance. The stakes were already high, and involving Minji could complicate things further. But if her evidence was real, it could finally destroy Jihoon's credibility.

"We'll think about it," Taehyung said, standing to see her out.

Minji hesitated at the door. "For what it's worth, I'm sorry for everything. I hope you win."

After she left, Y/N slumped onto the couch. "This is getting messier by the second."

Taehyung sat beside them, holding the USB drive. "It is, but this might be what we need to end it. Let's verify everything on here first."

As they plugged the drive into Taehyung's laptop, a sense of unease settled over them. The evidence was damning, but it also showed just how far Jihoon was willing to go to destroy them.

"This isn't just about the lawsuit anymore," Taehyung said quietly. "It's about protecting everything we've built—our careers, our reputations, and us."

Y/N nodded, their resolve hardening. "Then we fight. No matter what."

But as they reviewed the files late into the night, neither of them could shake the feeling that Jihoon still had one last card to play.
