The days following Taehyung's confession were a mix of tranquility and tension. They continued to enjoy their time in the coastal town, but Y/N couldn't shake the lingering worry about the woman from Taehyung's past. Every now and then, Y/N caught Taehyung lost in thought, his gaze fixed on the horizon, and it made them wonder what ghosts might still linger in his life.
Their time away was drawing to an end, and as they packed up the cottage, the weight of returning to the city loomed over them. Y/N worried about what awaited them once they stepped back into the limelight. Despite Taehyung's reassurances, the reality of their world—and the unpredictable past that threatened to resurface—hung like a cloud.
On their last night, they sat by a small bonfire on the beach. Taehyung had insisted on making it a memorable farewell, and the warm glow of the fire cast soft shadows as they sat wrapped in a cozy blanket.
"I know things feel uncertain right now," Taehyung said, as if reading Y/N's mind. "But I want you to know something." He looked at them, his eyes reflecting the firelight. "No matter what happens, I'm choosing you. Every day. I won't let anyone or anything come between us."
Y/N felt their heart swell, Taehyung's words grounding them amidst their worries. "I believe you," they replied softly, reaching out to hold his hand.
Just as the moment settled into a peaceful silence, Taehyung's phone buzzed. He ignored it at first, not wanting to break the tranquility, but when it buzzed again, he frowned and glanced at the screen.
"It's my manager," he murmured, the tension in his voice palpable. Y/N nodded, giving him a small smile to let him know it was okay to answer.
Taehyung stepped a few feet away, his voice a low murmur as he talked. Y/N couldn't hear much, but they caught phrases like "media leak" and "prepare a statement." Their stomach twisted, realizing their fears were beginning to materialize.
When he returned, Taehyung's face was serious. "It's... it's worse than I thought," he admitted, running a hand through his hair. "She's already talked to the press. There are rumors going around that I was still involved with her when you and I met."
Y/N's heart sank, their worst fears bubbling to the surface. "But... that's not true. Why would she say that?"
Taehyung shook his head, frustration evident in his eyes. "I don't know. But it looks like she's using our relationship to stay relevant."
A sense of dread crept into Y/N's heart. They knew the media wouldn't wait to verify facts—they'd publish whatever story sold, regardless of the truth. Y/N squeezed Taehyung's hand. "We'll get through this, right?"
He nodded, though the weight of the situation was clear on his face. "Yes. Together."
The night ended in a bittersweet silence. They lay side by side in bed, Taehyung's arm draped over Y/N protectively. But despite his warm presence, Y/N couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled in.
As Y/N closed their eyes, one thought echoed in their mind: Could love truly survive the harsh glare of the public eye and the unforgiving claws of the past?
To be continued...
