Jayden (POV):
Adrenaline rushed through my veins as we searched every cell we came across. The longer we searched the more frustrated I started to become. Jasmine said she had seen my mum in the dungeons but I was starting to think that maybe she was moved. There were only a few more areas to search and I was beginning to doubt that we were going to find her down here. Breathing in deeply I scented the air searching for any indication that she was here.
"What if they moved her?" I asked Aurora who was darting around the nearby cells.
Speaking in my Lycan form was still something I was getting used to. It always surprised me at how low my voice was. The first time I had heard it I had startled myself slightly.
"Where would they move her to though?" Aurora asked, coming to a stop in front of me.
"I don't know, the castle is huge, Wren could have her in literally any room." I huffed.
Chains rattled in the distance pulling both of our attention to a cell that was a little further down. Cautiously we began to approach, I couldn't smell anything but blood. Just as we were about to reach the cell Aurora stopped in front of me, placing her hand to my stomach.
"Let me go look, if it is her it could be really bad." She said softly.
Any time my mates wanted to protect me it made my heart warm. This however was something I needed to do regardless of what state she might be in. She was my mum after all and after everything that had happened I knew that Wren had used her powers on her. The only thing I didn't know was to what extent she had used her powers.
Leaning down I nuzzled her face with my large nose and gently licked her cheek. "I'll be okay Rory, let's do this together."
The cell was pitch black and as we entered it I could see the silhouette of a woman hanging from chains. Her feet looked to be barely touching the floor. The closer we got I noticed that blood was running down her arms and legs. Thick black hair hung lifelessly over her shoulders and her head was just hanging down. Had I not picked up on her scent I wouldn't even recognize her to be my mum. IShe looked so small and frail compared to the woman who had been by my side throughout my life.
"Mum?" I whispered into the darkness.
Her head lifted slowly, her eyes widening slightly as she took in my Lycan form for the first time. "Jayden? Is that you?" She said, her voice raspy.
"Yeah it's me mum, we're going to get you out of here." I said moving towards her.
She shook her head. "I-I deserve this, p-please just go s-save yourselves." She whimpered as she dropped her head down.
"Why are you saying that?" I protested as I pulled one of the chains from the wall.
"W-Wren, she showed m-me what she made me do, I-I'm a m-monster." She sobbed as Aurora gripped onto her hips so she wouldn't fall as I ripped out the last chain.
"I'm not leaving you here, we can talk about this once we are out of here."
As much as I wanted to talk about everything, this wasn't the time or place. There would be plenty of time once we were safely back at my family's home. My main focus now was getting everyone out of here in one piece.
"Here let me get these cuffs off of you." Aurora said as she sat on the floor with my mum in her lap.
"We know Wren used magic on you mum, I-I don't blame you for what happened. You are still my mum." I said as Aurora pried each cuff off her wrist.
