Silas
The next two days I center my life around making sure Odette is okay. With her past experiences I was worried that this attack, or near attack, would send her back into a skittish state. I didn't want her to go back to being afraid all the time however she seemed to be okay.
She was a bit shaken up in the morning explaining everything that happened up until she ran out into the yard but that was the extent of it.
I knew the circumstances weren't the same as the other attacks. She was aware of what was going on. She knew he was a witch from Louisiana and that I was a Lycan. There was no confusion past the initial intrusion.
Plus she knew a safe place to go. I was a couple hundred yards away.
It filled me with pride that she came right to me, placing me in between her and the threat. I was happy that she knew I would protect her.
What I wasn't happy about, besides the fucking idiot who came to hurt my mate in my own home, was Trey's reaction. He tried to take her from me. In the moment she needed me the most he thought it was best for her to leave my side. And of all the reasons, he thought it was because I would lose control and hurt her.
That infuriated me.
Odette was my mate. I would never put her in harms way, especially by me. Lycan or not, shifted and completely blacked out, I would never hurt her. The assumption was offensive, so much so that I wanted to confront him. The only thing that stopped me was Odette.
She convinced me that confronting him face to face was probably a bad idea so close to the altercation. She also reminded me a million times that Trey was my friend and killing him might be a step too far. Then she pointed out that she liked Natalie and this would affect their relationship. And if she were to lose that she'd be sad. That made me drop my plan to strangle him.
Instead I settled for a long conversation over the phone. Odette had gone to the store when that happened so I was able to express my full intent to kill him next time he tried to pull her away from me. He ended up apologizing and we halfway reconciled before Odette got back.
Another thing I was also proud of was Odettes reaction to him. She didn't go with him. She told him no and stood her ground.
"Okay what about these?" Odette pulled open the curtain to the dressing room.
My eyes dropped down to the new shorts she had on. They were light blue with tiny, white daisy's sewn on.
She let me look at the front then did a short spin.
"I'm not sure I like the cut," she said. She moved to stand in front of the mirror inside the room. Her fingers pulled at the cut off ends with an unsure look.
"I like them," I said. "But if you don't like the cut maybe we can find them in a different style."
Odette never had a lot of clothes. Since moving up here I knew she only bought a few things and mix-matched them. I tried buying her more clothes earlier but my offer was quickly shot down.
Now she seemed okay with the idea. I suppose it was because we were settled. She knew everything and lived with me by choice, not fear. Those things were in the past and now we could move forward.
She hummed. "Maybe." Her blue eyes came back to me. "I'll put them back and if we can't, we can come back, yeah?"
"Of course angel."
She smiled then pulled the curtain closed. I stayed leaned against the wall across from her.
My eyes drifted to the crack between the curtain and wall. They really should put doors in these dressing rooms. The curtain never touched the wall and often shifted. I had to hold it closed several times so she could change in private.
