Katie had told Caitlin from the moment that the Matilda's qualified for the Olympics, that she would be coming to support her, no matter what. So when the time came and Caitlin was heading to Paris, Katie was also preparing to leave, she was going with her friend grace, who would be with her for the first 2 games, than one of her old friends was coming to meet her and watch another. Katie planned to stay as long as Caitlin's team made it.
Caitlin left 2 days before Katie was set to leave with grace. When Caitlin arrived she immediately rang Katie to show her, her room and all the decorations that were around the hotel. Katie loved seeing how proud and excited Caitlin was to be playing at the Olympics.
Katie arrived at Paris the day of Caitlin's first game. As soon as Katie and grace touched down in Paris they went straight to Caitlin's hotel. When she arrived she texted Caitlin who was out the front in mer seconds. Katie saw Caitlin walking towards her and she couldn't hide the smile that creeped up on her face. Both girls gave each other the biggest hug, grace took out her phone to capture the cute moment, when Katie saw this she turned her head to give Caitlin a big sloppy kiss making Caitlin and grace laugh. They girls could only catch up quickly before Caitlin had to go back to her team to prepare for her first game. When Katie was on her way to her hotel she posted the photo grace took with the words, let's go my Aussie girl ❤️. Caitlin saw this and couldn't help but smile to herself.
When Katie and grace got to there hotel, they both changed into a Foord jersey, before meeting up with Caitlin's family and heading to a quick lunch before the game. "Yellow suits you Katie" Simone Caitlin's mum said making Katie smile. Once katie got the stadium she couldn't help but feel nervous. Katie hadn't been this nervous for a game since her debut for Irelands national team, years ago. Even then her hands weren't sweating like they were now, Jaime, Caitlin's sister noticed Katie's nerves straight away, "trust me the nerves never get easier" Jaime said making Katie laugh, "I've never been this nervous before a game" Katie chuckled slightly embarrassed, Jaime just wrapped her arm around Katie and patted her on the back.
As the two teams walked out of the tunnel and Caitlin saw Katie in the stands wearing an Australian jersey with the proudest smile, she couldn't help but feel butterflies. When the game came to an end and Katie saw the disappointment on Caitlins face her heart broke. As caitlin walked over to her family and Katie, with a smile, Katie instantly saw the missing spark in her eyes. As she said hello to all her family members Katie could see her starting to break, finally when it was Katie's turn to see Caitlin, Katie wrapped her arms around her girlfriend who now had tears falling from her eyes. Katie looked at her and smiled before wiping her tears, keeping her arm around Caitlin's shoulder who was now hunched over on the railing. "I'm so proud of you cait, your still in this it's just one set back", Katie said making Caitlin look up to her and smile. Caitlin was still upset, she had such high hopes for this tournament, and to lose there first game, it crushed those hopes. Katie knew Caitlin was still upset no matter how many times she told her family that she was okay. Katie rang Caitlin that night when she got back to her hotel and gave her another pep talk before the two agreed to meet for breakfast the next morning.
The next morning, Caitlin and Katie met up at a cute cafe, Katie took a photo of Caitlin before posting it on her story with the words, "Breakfast date". Since the holiday the both girls took to Mallorca, when they posted photos of each other, clearly dating, neither girl had tried to hide their relationship, they felt free and didn't care what other people thought, they loved each other. After the breakfast Caitlin had to get back to training in preparation for her next game in 2 days. Katie spent those 2 days with grace and Caitlin's family.
Finally it was game day again and Katie once again was wearing Caitlin's jersey, as soon as she walked through the gate the nerves kicked back in. If Caitlin lost this game she would be out of the Olympics, Katie would be beyond proud either way but she knew if Caitlin was to lose she would lose all her confidence. As the game begun and Zambia scored almost straight away, Katie's heart sank, then Alannah Kennedy scored a equaliser halfway through the first half meaning Katie could finally relax, that was until Zambia scored another two goes before halftime, making the score 3-1. Katie had played many games in her life and coming back from a 2 goal difference was rare, but as she saw the look in Caitlin's eyes walking out after half time she knew the girls had this. The game after that was back and forth, when finally for the first time all game australia was leading, Katie almost couldn't breath, when finally the whistle to end the game went off. The score ending 6-5 to Australia, Katie let out a shakey breath before hugging Simone tighter than ever, both so proud of there girl. Caitlin came over to her family, saying hello to all of them, while Katie waited for her turn she found herself looking around for cameras, before realising she didn't care, Katie walked down to Caitlin, shrugging her shoulders before wrapping her hands around Caitlin and kissing her, Caitlin was caught of guard by Katie but loved every moment of it. When both girls pulled away Caitlin looked up to Katie stunned, "I love you so much Katie" Caitlin said still running on adrenaline, "you trying to give me a heart attack out there or something" Katie asked laughing at Caitlin who just playfully pushed her shoulder, "I love you to foord" Katie said wrapping her arms around Caitlin again.
The day came around for the finale game of the group stages, Australia were up against USA, Katie met up with Caitlin's family before arriving at the stadium, as Katie watched Caitlin walk out she couldn't wipe the smile off her face, the two girls made eye contact, making both girls heart flutter. As the game came to a close and australia were down to USA, Katie couldn't help but notice Caitlin's change in mood, she became more and more visibly upset, until finally the whistle blew and Caitlin dropped to the ground gets, tears falling out of her control, they were grouped, she felt like she had let everyone down. When Caitlin finally walked over to her family, everyone was comforting her except for Katie who was giving Caitlin and her family space, when Caitlin finally looked a Katie giving her a look to come down, Katie brought Caitlin into her familiar embrace and Caitlin immediately felt better, "I'm so proud of you baby" Katie said in Caitlin's ear, Caitlin just shook her head "we didn't even get out of the group stage's" Caitlin replied tears still in her eyes, "Cait, look at me" Katie said picking up Caitlin's chin to look at her, " qualifying for the Olympics alone is a massive achievement, you can't beat yourself up, everyone is so proud of you. Including me and all your family behind me, I love you so much and I couldn't be prouder to be wearing your jersey right now" Katie finished, Caitlin didn't reply just hugged Katie tighter not letting go.
Caitlin and Katie spent the next few days together before Katie had to go back to London for preseason, Caitlin had an extra few weeks off from the Olympics. The night before Katie was heading home, Katie and Caitlin were laying on there bed, watching a movie. Katie could tell Caitlin wasn't watching, it was obvious she was still upset about the loss. Caitlin was also receiving a significant amount of hate for getting grouped at the Olympics. Katie tried as hard as she could to cheer Caitlin up but nothing was working. "Cait, you've gotta stop looking at the hate it's only going to make things worse, what those people think doesn't matter, you are surrounded by people who love you so, so,so much, you are one of the most talented players I know, you can't put so much pressure on yourself", Caitlin just nodded as cuddled into Katie tighter, "thanks Kates, I needed to hear that, and thank you for being here, watching me play, it really meant a lot, I going to miss you so much", Caitlin finished, looking up to Katie, "I'm going to miss too cait, I'm so glad I got to be here to support you, I love you so much" Katie said kissing Caitlin's forehead, "I love you too" Caitlin replied into Katie's chest.
Katie left early the next morning, both girls in tears as they said their goodbyes. When Katie got to the airport she picked a collection of her favourite photos from the trip, posting them with the caption , "Adopted Aussie for the week, proud of you always @caitlinfoord 💚💛" Caitlin's heart fluttered as she scrolled through the photos Katie had posted, commenting "The way 👀❤️". Caitlin felt much better after talking to Katie the night before and was finally ready to enjoy a much needed holiday with her mum before returning to pre season. Both girls called each other every chance they got. Missing each other like crazy.
