McFoord One-Shots

-Euro qualifiers-

Caitlin arrived at the pub that she organised to meet the McCabe family at ahead of the game, she always loved catching up with them all, although she wished it was on better circumstances, tonight Katie would play a game that decides weather Ireland would go to the euros. Caitlin knew how much the euros meant to Katie and couldn't even think to imagine what would happen if the game ended in wales favour. Sharon could tell something was bothering Caitlin as soon as she walked in to the pub, "Are you okay" Sharon asked caitlin who was standing off in a corner, caitlin turned to face Sharon and smiled, "Uh yeh, just nervous for Kates" caitlin said playing with her rings on her hands, Sharon wrapped her arms around caitlin, "You and me both Caitlin" Sharon replied making both girls laugh, "Come on, you need distracting" Sharon added grabbing Caitlin's hand and pulling her over to the rest of the McCabes.

When Caitlin arrived at the stadium the nerves immediately returned, her palms became sweaty and she could feel her heartbreak through her chest. As they walked up to Katie's box, Caitlin walked out to the seats with Katie's sister Lauryn, she loved seeing how much lauryn looked up to Katie, the two sat and talked about all things football allowing caitlin to finally relax a bit. That was until she saw Katie come out to warm up, she hasn't seen Katie in over a week, they FaceTimed but it's not the same, Caitlin's heart fluttered and she could feel her cheeks blush as she watched Katie warmup. Sharon and Ella one of Katie's sisters came and sat beside caitlin and lauryn, "How you going" Sharon asked caitlin referring to her nerves from earlier, caitlin laughed, "Kind of wanting the game to be over already" Caitlin said as she wiped her sweaty hands on her jumper, the mccabes just laughed before going back to distracting Caitlin.

Finally the teams walked out, Caitlin loved watching Katie represent her country and lead them out, she couldn't of been prouder of her girl, Sharon watched Caitlin fall in love with Katie over and over again, "Here we go" Ella said to Caitlin as she put her hands on Caitlin's shoulders and shook her making her laugh. As the game begun Caitlin sat in comfortable silence with lauryn and Gary Katie's dad, whenever Caitlin went to Katie's games she sat with them. The first goal from wales sent shivers down Caitlin spine, but she knew Ireland had it in them to come back. But chance after chance, Ireland couldn't get the ball in.  And when wales scored there second goal, Caitlin's stomach dropped, it was the 82nd minute, she held hope but it was unlikely Ireland would be going to the euros.

Finally when the final whistle blew Caitlin watched as Katie dropped to the ground, her heart instantly sank as she saw Katie hiding her face, knowing she was crying. Caitlin was holding back her own tears, she wanted to hug Katie so bad. She gave all of Katie's family members a hug and stood with Sharon while they waited for Katie to come up to them. When she did Caitlin stood in the corner letting Katie talk to her family, Caitlin watched as Katie walked in and looked around the room, she saw her red cheeks and glassy eyes, she spoke to her family and finally walked over and saw Caitlin. Caitlin walked up to Katie and held her tight in a hug, Katie finally let the tears she was trying to hold in infront of her family fall, Caitlin kissed Katie's head and held her until Katie had no more tears. "Kates, I'm so proud of you, you have no idea" Caitlin said quietly in Katie's ear, Katie tried to smile, but it was quickly replaced with her stern face, "I failed them" Katie said as she cried into Caitlin's shoulder, Katie's family watched on worried about her. "Kates, don't say that, no one thinks that" Caitlin said pulling away and wiping Katie's tears, "I don't want to captain the team anymore" Katie said quietly so only Caitlin could hear, "Katie" Caitlin said sternly making the McCabes all look at the two girls. Katie noticed them all look at her, her body tensed up in Caitlin's arms, "We're talking about this later kates, your not in the right mindset, I love you okay, we all do, and we are so so proud of you" Caitlin said kissing Katie on the lips before walking her over to her family.

Katie and Caitlin went back home to Katie's house with her family, they all said there good nights to the girls and finally Katie was in bed cuddling with her girl. "Kates, talk to me" Caitlin said to Katie who was still letting tears fall thinking about the game, "I just feel like, I'm not the person for the team, I was never ready to captain the team, i jumped in and have failed all the girls, I don't want to hold them back" Katie said completely overthinking the lose, "Kates, there is no one more perfect for the captain of Ireland than you, you didn't jump in, you got asked because everyone around you could see the potential you had to captain the team, even at the age of 21, Kates they picked you for a reason, the passion you have towards Ireland is what makes you the most amazing captain, you have changed so many young girls life's, including your sisters, I love watching how proud lauryn is of you, she gets to tell people her sister is the captain of Ireland, she gets to look up to you and want to end up where you are, don't throw that away, you put Ireland on the map last year at the World Cup, don't give up on them" Caitlin said before wiping Katie's tears and kissing her softly on the lips, "Thanks cait, you always know what to say, thankyou for coming today, it really meant a lot to have you there, I don't know how I would've delt with the lose without you, I love you so much" Katie said kissing Caitlin back, "I love you too" Caitlin replied before holding Katie tight and brushing her hands through Katie's hair until she fell asleep.
