Every Step Of The Way

Caitlin sat on the bench restless as she watched Arsenal go up against Chelsea in a tough match. She was ruled out for the game as she had a niggle in her calf, nothing serious just a precaution. As Caitlin watched the game become rough from the bench she couldn't help but notice Katie's player not backing down and making harsh tackles. Caitlin could tell Katie was getting mad, so at half time she walked up behind her and put her arm over Katie's shoulder. "Kates she not worth it, swap sides with lotte", Katie just nodded, and walked away.

As the second half kicked off, Katie swapped with lotte, and the game was now flowing, arsenal were now up by 1, that didn't last long before Katie's previous player had now also swapped sides and was back to her harsh tackles on Katie. Every time Katie had the ball Caitlin had to close her eyes, that was until she heard Katie's scream from all the way across the pitch, she knew it was Katie and her eyes flung open to see Katie on the ground clutching her knee crying. Caitlin's eyes were shut when Katie went down but by the look of the girls on the bench faces it was bad. Beth mead who was also on the bench, sitting next to Caitlin, noticed Caitlin freaking out. Beth immediately got flashbacks from when viv went down the same way, and Beth was helpless on the bench. Caitlin was now standing up trying to get a better look of Katie, Beth stood up and grabbed Caitlin, "she's gonna be okay cait" Beth said wrapping an arm around Caitlin and holding her back, Caitlin didn't even acknowledge Beth as she was to worried about Katie. Katie hadn't moved and was now getting put on the stretcher, as soon as the medics came off the field carrying katie, Caitlin ran out of Beth's grip to Katie's side, grabbing her hand. "Cait" Katie said crying, noticing Caitlins soft hands straight away, "hey chick, your gonna be okay" Caitlin replied blinking away the tears she had. She had never seen Katie in this much physical pain and it broke her. She walked with the medics, not letting go of Katie's hand once. They got to the medical room, and caitlin watched on as the medics assessed katie, soon they all left and it was just katie and caitlin in the room. Katie still had tears falling, out of pain and worry, she felt her knee pop and knew it was her ACL straight away, "Kates, your going to be okay. I'm sure it's just a bad knock" Caitlin said trying to comfort Katie while also trying to convince herself, "no cait, I felt it pop, it's my ACL I know it" Katie said now bursting into even more tears, Caitlin even had a few tears falling now. "I've got you Kates, we're going to get through this together". Caitlin said holding onto Katie as tight as she could.

When the medics came back in they told Katie the news she already knew, Katie didn't cry, she just stared off into the distance. Caitlin still wrapped around Katie, was listening to all the details on how to take care of Katie to make the recovery as quick as possible. The medics left and soon after Beth and viv walked in, viv walked up to Katie and immediately wrapped her arms around Katie, Katie just cried into vivs shoulder, "Katie it's going to be hard, but you are the strongest girl I know, I have no doubt that you will bounce back better than ever". Katie just nodded as viv held her tight, Beth had her arm wrapped around Caitlin while Caitlin silently cried, worry for her girlfriend taking over, "She's going to be okay Caitlin, she's got the whole team and the best girlfriend to look after her". Beth said hugging Caitlin.

Katie had surgery the next week, it went well and when Katie woke up, Caitlin was sitting next to Katie's hospital bed holding her hand, Caitlin noticed Katie woke up and held her hand tighter, walking over to Katie, "hey Kates how are you feeling" Caitlin asked, "Your pretty, you know that" Katie replied slurring her words, still clearly coming down from the anaesthetic. Caitlin laughed, "your not to bad yourself McCabe".

The next few months were hard on both girls, Caitlin wanted to help Katie and be there for her, which she was as much as she could be, but with training and national breaks it was hard, Katie hated being on the sidelines, watching her team win games without her, it sucked. One night as both girls were sat on the couch Caitlin spoke, "I'm really proud of you Kates, I can't imagine how hard this has been for you, I wish I could've been here more to help you, I'm sorry" Caitlin finished laying her head on Katie's shoulder, Katie placed her head on top of Caitlin's and wrapped her arm around her, "trust me, I could not of done this without you cait, you were there every step of the way, even when I was stubborn and pushed you away, you can't help that you had international break, but if I'm being honest that was also a pretty good distraction, getting to watch my girl represent her country". Katie said kissing the top of her girlfriends head, "I love you so much McCabe " caitlin said now looking up at Katie, "I love you to Foord" Katie replied now kissing Caitlin on the lips.

Both girls knew Katie still had a long recovery ahead of her, but Katie was okay with that, because she also knew caitlin was with her every step of the way.

8 Months later Katie was lining up in the Tunnel for the first time since tearing her ACL, Caitlin stood infront of her smiling as she watched her girlfriend finally do the thing she loved the most. Katie had a phenomenal game, even scoring even scoring a McBanger with an assist from Caitlin, proving that not even a almost year break from football will stop her.

A/N- This one's a little shorter, I plan on still doing most of them long but didn't really know what else to write, keep putting in your ideas. I look forward to writing them. I hope you guys liked it x
