KNOCK KNOCK
"Must be Pritham," Mayil, who was sitting beside me, whispered to herself and rushed towards the door.
This girl is an idiot with brains!
I followed her to make sure she didn't get into any trouble, and the moment she opened the door, her smile disappeared because facing her was a very angry general who looked like he would burn anything and everything in his way.
Something went terribly wrong!
"Mayil, what the hell are you doing here?" he asked angrily upon seeing her, and she took a step back in fear.
"Who else is here?" he asked, perhaps hearing the voices from inside the room.
"I... actually..." Mayil hesitated.
"I am not a very patient person, Mayil," the general warned, and I was left with no choice but to interrupt their conversation.
"Actually, sir," I said, taking a step forward, "Most of the soldiers left home all of a sudden, and we were all scared, so... we came here hoping to find answers... assuming bhabhisa would know something."
The general, though still irritated, nodded his head, understanding my point.
"I need to speak to my wife," he said. "In private," he emphasized.
Mayil immediately went inside the room.
"The general sir is here," she announced. "Perhaps the rest of the men are back home as well. We should go check."
The moment they heard those words, all the women began to leave, and bhabhisa came to the corridor, locking eyes with the general, who looked at her like a lion ready to hunt his prey.
Bhabhisa quickly broke eye contact and looked down. I noticed her hands tremble slightly as she played with the end of her saree to calm her nerves and innocently looked around, longing for the comfort provided by the women around her.
"Everything okay, sir?" I asked just to be sure.
"Leave, Shanthi," was the only reply I got from the general.
"But sir..." I tried to interfere.
"I said leave," he said as his angry eyes diverted towards me, and I got so terrified that my legs began to move without my consent, and I quickly made my way out.
They were right when they said that the general's eyes spit fires of hell when he is angry!
As I left the corridors of the compound, I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down.
"Akka, I think something is wrong," I heard Mayil's words.
"I think so too," I replied.
"Should we stay back to..." her words were interrupted when we heard footsteps, and soon enough, Vinod approached us.
"Sweetheart, general sir asked to evacuate the entire floor; you both should leave," he stated firmly, looking at me and Mayil.
"But Vinnu, I think I should probably stay and..." I tried to explain.
"I am speaking as Officer Vinod Singh Shekhavath now," my husband interrupted me, "and if I tell you to leave, you leave! Everything else can wait."
Damn!
One scratch on the King, and the entire army changed their persona.
Mayil and I quickly left the floor. Vinod followed us and locked the entry to the floor, restricting anybody from even accidentally getting onto the general's floor.
