Chapter 85 – Port of Capital City: Boarding Time
Wayne Academy Silver Island Field Trip — Day 1
Morning light spilled across the harbor, glinting off the decks of the cruise ship.
The port buzzed with life. Laughter. Shouting. Rolling suitcases rattling across metal ramps.
And as expected, Section 1 descended first.
Like they owned the dock.
Asha was already filming their "grand entrance," holo-cam held high as she narrated dramatically.
Jayson stood beside her, arms crossed, his usual quiet scowl firmly in place.
Zatariel barely acknowledged the camera—
His attention was elsewhere.
Locked on the remaining buses.
Watching.
Waiting.
One by one, the other sections arrived.
Section 2 stepped down in perfect formation—clean lines, polished shoes, controlled smiles.
Section 3 moved like they were in a slow-motion advertisement, every angle carefully curated.
Section 4 pushed and argued for a position before even reaching the dock.
Section 5 had already begun counting heads—some whispering assignments about which Section 1 student they would assist.
Section 6 blended into the background, quiet as shadows.
Section 7 arrived loud—and smelling faintly of smoke.
Then— The worn-out last bus.
Section 8.
"M-Miexha, go!"
A shove too sudden.
She stumbled forward before the bus had even fully stopped.
Her hand reached for the railing— Missed.
The world tilted.
Behind her, Jecca forced her way through the crowd.
"Stop pushing her! She can't—!" Another shove.
A quiet laugh.
Then—
Whrrr.....
The sound cut clean through the noise.
A sleek silver-and-violet drone descended from above, hovering directly in front of Miexha.
The entire port stilled.
Gasps rippled outward.
Footsteps halted mid-motion.
Miexha froze.
Her hands lifted instinctively, shaking as she began signing, movements rushed and uneven.
The drone scanned her.
Flushed skin.
Red knuckles.
Wrinkled fabric.
Tear tracks she hadn't even noticed.
A soft click. A velvet-lined compartment opened.
Inside— A brand new hearing aid.
It lowered gently into her palm.
Miexha blinked, then carefully placed it in her ear.
Sound returned all at once.
"Thank you," she whispered.
Behind her, the students stood rigid.
Jecca swallowed.
The drone's eye dimmed—then brightened again.
A voice followed.
