Chapter 99 – Historical Roleplay: The Silver Mermaid Legend

Wayne Academy Silver Island Field Trip – Day 4, Evening

Jayson tightened his lifejacket.
Asha checked her oxygen tank, hands trembling.
Zatariel stared into the deep, unmoving.

Thyron stood.

"If we dive now... there's no turning back."

Jayson looked at the others.

"We go down. We bring her back. No matter what's waiting for us down there."

And with that, He dove.

Beneath the sea floor, wrapped in the iridescent shimmer of a shield bubble...

Seleina lounged on her coral throne, tail coiled like a serpent, sharp nails tapping the armrest. Her face was carved from storm clouds, expression cold and regal.

Her silver-scaled tail pulsed, slow and stormy.

"Idiots. Absolute, clam-brained idiots," she muttered.

"She actually believed them. 'Let's go see the glowing reef,' they said. 'Just a few minutes,' they said."
She clenched her fist.
"I should've let the Zenips eat them all."

On a velvet drift-bed, Miexha lay sleeping, breath soft, peaceful—
Unaware of how close she'd come to being kidnapped by the enemies.

Nearby, Marie stood over a pile of defeated Zenip creatures.

Her clothes were stained blue.

She dragged another corpse across the coral floor, tossing it onto the growing heap before crouching to extract a faintly glowing core from its body.

Her expression, however, was almost... delighted.

Sphere approached from the side, his wrist device cracked but functional. A soft ping echoed from it.

"They're here," he muttered. "The surface brats just arrived."

Marie looked up immediately. A grin spread across her face.

"Good." She stood, rolling her shoulders. "Time for training."

Her eyes gleamed.

"I built these traps myself. Let's see if they survive them."

In a corner of the dome, vines of living coral twisted upward, binding three figures tightly against a reef wall.

Clarise. Lotie. Mia.

Their arms were pinned. Their movements restricted. The coral pulsed faintly whenever they struggled.

Clarise's composure was gone. Makeup streaked down her face. Her breathing was uneven.

They had seen everything.

They saw Marie slice the man open with a single blade.
The same man who told Clarise about Miexha's secret.

Now, he was just another body in the pile.

"You're lucky I don't kill humans," Marie's voice echoed as she approached.

But her smile was not comforting.

"I have to admit, though..."

She crouched slightly at Clarise.

"Leaving your entire plan written on a napkin... and abandoning it at a café table?"

A small laugh escaped her. "That's... embarrassingly villainous."
