Chapter 7: Notes from a Fragile Heart
Third-Person Point of View
It had only been a month since school started at Wayne Academy, but July's warm sunlight already covered the campus. The hallways were filled with loud laughs, quiet gossip, and hearts beating a little too fast.
Online rumors spread faster than the school paper ever could. Some notebooks had names written in the corners, decorated with tiny hearts. Love was everywhere. The sweet kind. The embarrassing kind. The kind that makes someone smile at their phone for no reason.
And Miexha Wayne? She was definitely not safe from it.
Her thoughts kept drifting back to one blonde boy.
Zatariel Wov.
That confusing, hard-to-read guy with blue eyes who always looked bored or maybe just annoyed at the world. She couldn't stop replaying their short conversation during PE. It wasn't even a big deal. Just a stupid moment that had somehow rewired her entire heartbeat.
And her grades?
Yeah. Total disaster.
Inside the Wayne Mansion
Sarah Wayne sat at the head of the long dining table, her fingers lightly tapping against her coffee cup. Across from her, William stood with a folded paper in his hand, trying to stay calm—but his eyes kept scanning the numbers again and again.
"This can't be right," Sarah said under her breath.
"She was doing so well when we homeschooled her."
"We focused on business, law, and music," William replied carefully. "We didn't exactly teach her algebra or science."
Sarah sighed. "No... this isn't about the subjects. She's distracted. It's like her mind is somewhere else."
Through the open door, Miexha could be seen lying upside down on her couch, feet hanging over the backrest. She hummed to herself, lazily twirling a velvet ribbon between her fingers. Every few seconds, she would giggle for no reason.
Well. Not exactly no reason.
A certain blonde boy had been living in her head rent-free.
"Should we get her checked again? Just to be sure she's okay?" Sarah whispered, her voice tight.
"The doctor said she's recovering" William answered. "But..."
They both looked at the report card lying on the table.
Miexha's Report Card

Science – 85

"She's calm in school," Sarah admitted. "And of course she got perfect in music."
William nodded. "But she's skipping meals. Sleeping too much. And math..."
"We can hire a tutor," William added firmly. "We can't hand her the empire if she struggles like this."
Sarah's expression softened as she looked toward the sunroom again. "The husband I chose for her is more than capable. You don't need to worry."
William slowly shook his head. "Even so, she needs to grow on her own. She can't rely on someone else forever."
Sarah hesitated. "I just want her safe. Hidden. She doesn't need to know everything."
