Lester's POV
"She still not home?" Landin questioned, his voice laced with concern.
We sat on FaceTime after he tried to get a hold of her himself. Lee usually is home right after work and if she won't be she doesn't fail to let me know what's going on. So imagine my surprise when it went on 6 pm and she still wasn't home even though she got off work at 3.
"Want me call her again?"
"Nah." I shook my head as I stopped pacing the room and took a seat on the bed.
"Where the fuck is she at?" I mumbled more to myself as I saw yet again another one of my texts was left on delivered.
"What if she had to stay over or sum? Sometimes D had to work late too." He tried to calm me down, but my irritation was rising with each passing moment.
"She would've at least texted me back and let me know that." I sighed. "She not just gone ignore me and stay at work. Sum is wrong."
I couldn't ignore the nagging feeling in my chest. My baby wasn't home and I knew there was a reason why. My mind did what it always did and immediately thought the worst, I was almost convinced she had got into a wreck.
Lee was always reckless when driving that damn Audi, especially if my sons wasn't in the car. She thought she was some kind of Nascar driver and I always told her to chill out, hopefully, she listened and wasn't dead on the side of the road.
"I see yo face bro, what you thinking?" Landin frowned at me.
"I just hope she's ok." I exhaled a deep breath before getting up and pacing the room once again.
"Da da!" I heard my Junior babbling in his playpen and looked over to see him reaching for me.
I picked him up and couldn't contain my smile seeing him stare up and smile at me. He looked just like his mama when he did that, both twins had her beautiful smile and cute lil dimples.
"I'm rey try call her again." I informed my brother.
"Bet. Let me know if she answers." He spoke before hanging up.
"Tell yo mama if she ont' answer ima tap that ass." I told Lester who then giggled at me as if he understood.
I went to her contact and saw that her location was moving and she was almost home. Awe hell nah! Her ass better have a damn good reason for coming home late then. I sighed once more as I sat back down and watched Legend who was still in the playpen playing with his new toy. It was a box that made different noises with each button you pressed and he loved it. He screamed and laughed wildly each time the toy roared.
I hated that I was feeling so many emotions in such a short time. Although I was relieved that my girl wasn't hurt, I was now angry as I wondered why she left me in the dark. Was she at work this whole time? What happened and why couldn't she call me?
But no matter how upset I was I could never not look at my sons and feel pure joy. They brought me a peace that only Lee was able to make me feel before. I stood with Lester still in my arms, making sure not to step in any more rose petals.
This was supposed to be a beautiful night. After me and Landin looked at some rings I found the one. A 3-carat Princes cut Diamond ring with gold trim. Landin had the bright idea of proposing today. At first, I wasn't with it because I felt that Lee deserved better. I wanted to ask her to marry me somewhere by the water with a nice view and our sons there, like she wanted.
But Landin explained how it didn't matter the location. Whether I proposed somewhere nice or in our living room, it was the act that mattered. And when I thought about it, he made sense. Lee didn't care about the setup of the proposal as long as it came from my heart and she felt that it was right.
