Lee's POV

"Hello! You must be Lee." The man stood giving me a firm handshake before retreating behind his desk.

Me and Lester sat in the dull green chairs next to each other. Looking around nervously, I swallowed a lump in my throat when I heard him call my name.

"So, Lee, how are you today?"

"I'm fine."

"First of all congratulations. I'd like to get to know a little bit about you if that's ok."

"Ok." I nodded.

I took a second to come up with how to describe myself. Every time someone asked me to tell them about myself it's like every detail I know about myself is stripped from my brain instantly. I hated it.

"Umm well, I'm twenty-one, I work as a caregiver, and I'm an only child I guess. I'm not really good at this." I shrugged with a nervous laugh.

"What are your hobbies?"

"Not much these days. I like to eat and sleep, that's about it."

"Understandable." He nodded writing down in his notepad.

As if he saw the concern on my face, Lester gently placed his hand on top of mine as it sat in my lap. I looked to him and he gave me a smirk to ease to mind as he lightly squeezed my hand. I had to look away so my smile wasn't so evident at the gesture.

"Have the two of you discussed your relationship at all since the pregnancy?"

Lester stayed quiet so I spoke up. "I tried to but he didn't really wanna talk about it."

"Why not, Lester?" He turned to him.

"I ont' think we need to talk about it." He shrugged slouching in his chair.

"She the one who wanna discuss it. I'm good but she wants to work that shit out so here we are."

The therapist turned to me. "What exactly do you want to talk about today Lee?"

"I want to talk about why we broke up in the first place."

"And why was that?"

I glanced at Lester to see his calm demeanor was gone. His dark eyes stared at the floor as he twisted a dread around in his hand and tapped his foot.

"Because I wouldn't marry him."

"Lester?"

"What?"

"How did it make you feel when she said no?"

He slowly sat back up and rested his elbows on his thighs as he rubbed his hands together. He glanced at me before turning back to his therapist.

"I was angry and hurt. I was embarrassed."

"Why?"

"I put my heart on the line and got stepped on. She said no so quick and with no emotion it's like it wasn't a second thought to turn me down. And I couldn't understand why. What did I do?"
