Foreign stays true to his word and takes me to the gun range. As nervous as I've been to go, now that I'm here I feel better about it. I still haven't spoken to Major after he dropped that huge bomb on me. As bad as I know it seems, I just can't find the words to say to him. It's unfortunate that he has cancer but am I really supposed to excuse his lateness because of it? It seems heartless of me and I know to the outside world it comes off that way but I still need to protect myself. It could've been a million other reasons why he was late, it just so happened that it was because of his cancer diagnosis. What else would it be next time?

I follow quietly behind Foreign taking in the displays of guns and ammo. Majority of these guns I'd only ever seen in movies. It's daunting now having to have the experience for my own personal use. I never thought I would be a gun owner let alone try shooting one. Some of these people in here don't even look like they need to own one but this is America. I shake the thoughts out of my mind and try to focus on Foreign and the instructor.

"Hello, welcome to Guns and Powder Shooting range. My name is Jason, I'll be your instructor for the day." A tall and slender mixed man smiles at both of us. Foreign and I introduce ourselves, shaking his hand in the process.

"Foreign."

"Issaiah."

"Nice to meet you two. Let's first start with what brings you here."

"I just want her to feel safe when I'm not around." Foreign admits and he pulls me closer to him. He rubs the nape of my neck making me less tense.

"You've come to the right place. Before you can become a registered gun owner there are a few things that you need to know and do. Training and safety, background check, and knowing your gun laws. You've gotten all your forms filled out right?"

"Yes." We both say in unison.

"Great so I will give you some time to pick out your firearms that you want to train with and then we'll get started."

Foreign and I walk over to the counter in search for the gun we want to use. I fallback and let him take the lead since I'm not familiar with this stuff. Foreign can sense my hesitation and pulls me to him telling me about the guns we're looking at for me to make a better decision.

"This is a semiautomatic pistol, the most common used gun."

"This the one you think I should get?"

"I think it'll be good for you to use it for practice."

"Alright, I'll go with this one then."

"Remember that it does have some weight on it though. Don't get scared when you try it out. Remember I'm right here with you."

"I'll keep that in mind."

We finish choosing our guns then head back to Jason so we can get started with our first lesson. Even though it's not something I'm in the mood to do, I try my best to focus on what's being taught. Jason teaches us about our form and the most effective way to hit our targets that'll have them down for the count if we were dealing with a real person. Just like Foreign warned, the gun has serious weight to it giving a kickback when I try to use it. Jason shares some tips on how to keep the gun tight in my hands when I fire it. An hour in makes me more confident than when I came in.

"Thank you so much for the training." I extend my hand to shake Jason's.

"No problem, you two were easy to teach. Thank you for listening."

"That's the only way to learn." Foreign shakes his hand as he continues to talk. "We'll definitely be coming back for some more lessons."

"That's what I like to hear, you'll be licensed firearm owners in no time. Thanks for coming and see you again soon."
