Flashback from the end of the last chapter:
"We'll leave them here for now until we have a precise plan of what we're going to do. We can't take any more risks. We've built something good and it's going to stay that way. We don't know how big the group is, how strong they are or what weapons they have," Michonne said, both harshly and coldly, but also slightly caringly. "Definitely," Rosita then confirmed.
Now:
A few more days had passed since Rosita and Michonne had the "talk" with Aiden and his partner. Sophie and Adrian continued to get closer even though both were already close anyway because they had been friends since they were little and that hadn't changed despite all the years. Adrian and Sophie were just walking around Alexandria because Sophie was now allowed to leave the infirmary, but only just. "Hey, who are you staying with? Or do you have your own house?" Sophie asked coldly but still curiously as she walked around with Adrian. "Nope, no house of my own, I was allowed to stay with Daryl and he's actually not as bad as I thought," Adrian said with a smile but also openly as he looked straight ahead as he walked around with Sophie. "If you know him, he's okay," Sophie said as she looked at Adrian. "It's quite possible," Adrian said with a shrug, after which there was a moment of silence. The two continued to walk in Alexandria for some time until Michonne approached the two because Sophie and Adrian were in sight. "Hey you two, can you do me a favor?" Came in Michonne's usual tone as she turned to the two teenagers. "What's up?" Sophie then asked in her usual cold tone but still had a newish tone. "You need to check something, two people didn't come back from patrol, could you check on things? The two of them were near the western lookout post," Michonne explained seriously, whereupon Adrian and Sophie looked at each other for a moment until they looked at michonne again. "Sure," Sophie said harshly, whereupon Michonne nodded as a kind of thank you. "If anything happens, come back immediately, Sophie, you're still injured, your wound is still healing, so don't overdo it," Michonne said in a friendly but stern tone as she looked at Sophie, who rolled her eyes slightly but agreed. Afterwards Sophie went home where Rosita was and Adrian accompanied Sophie. "Mom, me and Adrian are going away for a few hours." Sophie called as she walked into the house. "Hey darling, why?" It came gently from Rosita and she looked at Sophie questioningly when Sophie mentioned that she would be away for a moment.
"Michonne asked me and Adrian to go to the western lookout post and check everything was going, two of our people somehow didn't come back," Sophie explained honestly, whereupon Rosita's facial expression changed to a serious one. "I don't know. You're still hurt.." Rosita said worriedly as she looked at Sophie. "I can do it mom, if necessary Adrian is okay with me?" It came from Sophie when she tried to convince Rosita not to worry. Rosita then sighed before speaking again. "Okay, you can go, but be careful. Both of you," Rosita said with a stern but also caring look while she looked at Adrian and Sophie, whereupon Adrian agreed and Sophie nodded. Afterwards Sophie went to her room where she took her backpack and packed a few things before she went back to Rosita and Adrian. Rosita made sure that Sophie had everything because Rosita was very worried about Sophie. After Rosita was sure that Sophie really had everything, she said goodbye with a hug. Sophie and Adrian then left Alexandria and made their way to the lookout post. On the way, Adrian talked about everything while Sophie listened but still answered his stupid things. "You're really an idiot," Sophie said in a cold tone as she looked for Walker. "You still like me," Adrian said, laughing but still in a confident tone. "Shut up," Sophie muttered in mock annoyance, which made Adrian laugh. At some point the two arrived at one of the lookout posts where they found the two from Alexandria, but they were dead. "Do you know them both?" Adrian then asked in a serious tone as his eyes wandered to Sophie. "Not really, I've seen it once but that's it," Sophie answered honestly to Adriana's question, whereupon Adrian nodded. When the two looked around the area, they decided to go back to Alexandria first, which the two did and explained everything to Michonne. After explaining everything to her, they were both able to leave. They both went to Sophie's house where they asked Rosita if they could both stay a little longer outside of Alexandria. Rosita then more or less agreed, so the two of them set off again out of Alexandria where they then walked around aimlessly while talking. "I'm really glad that I'm with you again, the world is the same as it used to be "It's messed up, but it's the same feeling as when we were kids. We were always out and about together," Adrian said in a gentle but also honest and happy tone while he looked around the room with Sophie because they were both a We had found an abandoned building and so we just had a look and this building turned out to be an old music shop where there were some instruments but also other things. "That's right, I think it's good that you're with me again," Sophie answered honestly while looking at him, whereupon Adrian smiled. "Here" Adrian suddenly said after a few minutes of silence when he found something. This caught Sophie's attention so she looked at Adrian and walked up to him to see what he was doing. Soohie then gave Adrian a confused look but still a rather cold look. "What the hell are you doing?" Sophie asked when she saw Adrian standing in front of a piano and pressing the keys a little, making music. He motioned for Sophie to come over, which she did. "Here, press here," Adrian said gently as he pointed to a button after Sophie had stood next to him, whereupon Sophie then pressed the button and then a tone was heard. "Now here" Adrian then said in the same gentle tone as before while pointing to another button which Sophie then pressed and another sound was heard but this time a different one. The two of them repeated the whole thing a few times, with Adrian looking at Sophie gently but also smiling. "You see, it's not that difficult," Adrian said with a smile but still gently as he looked at Sophie. "You and music?" Sopbie then asked, slightly confused but still in a rather cold tone. Adrian then smiled confused before saying something. "Sure, why not?" Adrian asked confusedly while smiling. "You're really a complete idiot," Sophie said coldly but in a rather teasing tone as she looked at Adrian. "I'm not," Adrian then replied in a confused tone as he looked at Sophie.
"Oh yes," Sophie said with a laugh as she looked at Adrian. "I really missed that," Adrian said gently again when he saw and heard Sophie's laugh. Then Sophie's smile disappeared again and her look said something like "ohh..." But shortly afterwards Adrian spoke up again. "But actually I wanted to tell you something completely different," Adrian said again after a few seconds of silence, whereupon Sophie looked at him confused. "Well you know...damn..." Adrian started, becoming quiet at the end because he seemed nervous to say it. "What is?" Sophie then asked, confused but also slightly worried when she saw how nervous Adrian suddenly became. "Nothing just.." Adrian began before he took a deep breath and collected his words again before finally saying what he wanted to say. "Sophie Espinosa, I love you," Adrian's mouth suddenly came out, causing Sophie to look at him in surprise, but she didn't say anything because it seemed like Adrian had more to say. "Ever since I saw you again after all these years, I was happy that you were alive even if you were hurt and recently I realized that my feelings are more than just friendship," Adrian then said. As he continued to look at Sophie, he noticed that Sophie had a rather nervous and uncertain look. "It's completely okay if you don't feel the same way, but I just wanted you to know about it," Adrian said when he saw Sophie's uncertain look while he confessed his love for Sophie. "No, that's not it.." Sophie then answered in a still uncertain tone. "Do you want to tell me what it is?" Adrian asked carefully but also gently because he noticed that Sophie seemed to have a hard time saying what she was feeling but also had problems in this situation. Sophie then nodded in confirmation and Adrian waited for Sophie to say something because he didn't want to stress her out and wanted to give her the time she needed to talk. "I love you too so I feel the same but I don't know if I can get into a relationship. I mean in one way I want it but on the other hand I'm afraid, afraid that it will be like last time.." Sophie then explained as she looked at Adrian who listened quietly and gave Sophie all the time she needed to talk. "Like last time? Afraid of what? What do you mean?" Adrian then asked very carefully and waited quietly until Sophie said something. "I had a boyfriend a while ago, his name was Henry, I really loved him but he was recently killed by a group called whisperers, that's a brief summary of what happened," Sophie then explained, with Adrian noticing that Sophie was having a hard time fell to talking about it. "Besides, I'm scared. Scared that something will happen to you or that you'll die, everyone who means something to me will die and almost everyone who I loved or was important to me is dead except mom, Michael, Daryl and a few others but still I'm just scared ..." Sophie explained, tears coming to her eyes as she spoke. When Sophie was finished telling the story, Adrian simply took a step towards Sophie and hugged her. Sophie looked up at him confused and saw him smiling softly at her. "I won't die, I promise you, take all the time in the world to decide whether you want a relationship or not. If you want, we can continue to just be best stupid friends," Adrian then replied gently while watching Sophie's tears wiped away from the face. "Thank you," Sophie murmured as she hugged him. Adrian hugged her too and the two stayed like that for some time until Sophie broke away from the hug. Afterwards, Sophie went into another room to look around, while Adrian continued to look around the room where he was previously with Sophie. He didn't really want to go because he wanted to give her time for her own thoughts. Both of them calmly looked around the building and actually found some things, some ammunition and even some food. Sometime around early evening they both made their way back to Alexandria where they both arrived after a while. Adriak took Sophie home before he also went home himself since he lived with Daryl.
