Flashback from the end of the last chapter:
"Yes everything is fine" assured as she looked at Abraham who started the engine as he drove off hoping that nothing would happen to him and his family during the journey.
Now:
The family had been driving for a short while and there was silence until Rosita spoke up after another moment of silence. "What's the plan, where is the best place to go?" Rosita Ejer asked thoughtfully but it was still directed at Abraham. "In any case, get out of the city first, that's for sure and I would say when we're out we'll go to Mike, hopefully he knows what's going on here," Abraham replied both seriously and worriedly to Rosita's answer. Rosita nodded as confirmation that it was a good plan. So Abraham drove on and made his way out of the city with his family, which worked well until they reached somewhere in the middle of the city where there was already real chaos. Many buildings were on fire, shots were fired and much more could be seen.
"God..." Rosita said in shock when she saw the burning buildings and how people were attacking each other. "We have to get out of here," Abraham said very seriously when he saw that too and concentrated on driving, whereupon Rosita gave him a nod of confirmation as he continued driving through the city, but after a few seconds Sophie suddenly said something.
"Mom, dad, what's going on here? Why are the houses burning?" Sophie asked confused as she saw the burning houses and some of the chaos as she looked out the window of the car."Don't look darling, come away from the window" Rosita said worriedly but seriously as she turned around when she noticed that her daughter was looking out the window and partially saw what was happening but in a way Rosita was also relieved because she knew that Sophie was too young and small to understand what was happening, even if rosita or abraham explained it to her she still wouldn't understand gabz at 6 years old.
"What why?" Sophie asked, completely clueless and innocent as she sat away from the window and back to normal.
*rosita was about to answer when abraham interrupted her.
"Hey. Please just listen to your mother now, yes? You know she wouldn't tell you to leave there for nothing, so stay away from the window," Abraham then said, but also seriously, whereupon Sopie nodded in confirmation. "Good, thank you," Abraham said in the same tone, but a small smile left his lips when he saw that Sophie was now looking away from the window and Rosita also smiled slightly when she noticed that Sophie was doing exactly what Abraham told her. So Abraham drove on for a while until they reached a roadblock that was guarded by the police and a few soldiers and at the moment only important people and women with children were allowed through.Abraham drove as close as he could, which was rather difficult because there were pedestrians and cars everywhere and it was pure chaos because everyone wanted to get through the roadblocks and get out of the city. When Abraham was as close to the roadblock as possible, he stopped the car and turned off the engine. "Damn, what now?" Rosita asked seriously while looking at Abraham who was already thinking about what they should do next. He answered after thinking for a moment. "I'm going there, maybe I can get us through this or at least somehow get someone to tell us what's going on here," Abraham replied seriously while looking at Rosita as he opened the door of the car and got out. Rosita leaned a little in front of Abraham and took his wrist. "Take care of yourself," Rosita said worriedly as she looked at Abraham. He gave her a smile while reassuring her that he would be careful and everything would be okay. "Where are you going dad?" Sophie asked with fear because she was frightened by the situation with the chaos at the roadblocks. "I'll be right back, okay? I just need to talk to someone, so everything's fine, you stay with mom, okay?" came Abraham in a calm tone while he tried to calm his daughter down and do his best not to scare her . Sophie nodded and Abraham smiled before turning around and closing the car door behind him.Abraham looked around briefly to get another look at the situation around him and after a few seconds he went towards the roadblocks where there were some soldiers and police officers. When Abraham arrived at the roadblocks, he was immediately stopped by a soldier and Abraham then stopped. "Sir please stay watching" came the soldier coldly and seriously and Abraham complied with the soldier's request and stood there.
"What's going on here?" Abraham then came quietly and looked at the soldier while Abraham spoke. After a few seconds the soldier spoke up again.
"I'm sorry, but I can't and shouldn't give you any information about it, the only thing I can tell you is that only women and children can get through here for now," the soldier replied seriously but honestly, but Abraham knew that it was the truth and he knew too that if important people came here, the army and police would let these people through immediately.
"I understand, but let me through, I just want to get my family to safety," Abraham suddenly said in a more serious tone, but the soldier just shook his head and explained again that he couldn't let Abraham through. Abraham sighed and then reached into his pocket to get something out in the hope that he would then be able to get back to the car and then drive out of town with Rosita and Sophie.
The soldier watched Abraham's movements carefully and then instructed him that Abraham should slow down, whereupon Abraham nodded and took out a kind of ID card and gave it to the soldier. The soldier accepted the object and looked at it carefully and his gaze wandered back and forth between Abraham and the ID card-like object until he looked at Abraham again before asking Abraham if he was a soldier. Abraham nodded before answering. "Yes, Sergeant Abraham Ford," came the answer and confirmation seriously from Abraham while the soldier looked at him and after a few seconds gave him the ID-like object back. The soldier asked Abraham to wait a moment because the soldier needed to clarify something. Abraham waited as the soldier left and went to a man who had a higher rank than himself. He explained the situation to the other man and they then went together to Abraham and the higher ranking man also wanted to convince himself that Abraham was a soldier. When he was sure that Abraham was telling the truth and was sure that he was a soldier, he asked Abraham where he wanted to go if he could go through the roadblocks.
"I wanted to get out of the city with my family and my plan was to go to the barracks to talk to Mister Milton," Abraham said seriously but also truthfully and the higher-ranking soldier nodded. "Where is your family?" The soldier asked seriously and Abraham pointed to his rage where Rosita and Sophie were sitting inside. The soldier nodded and asked Abraham to go to his car and that he could get through without any problems. He nodded and thanked the soldiers and went to his car where he opened the door and then got in. "And?" Rosita immediately became serious and worried while Abraham got in and closed the TPR behind him. "He couldn't tell me what was going on but sir is allowed through for two reasons. One is because we have Sophie with us because she is a child and the second reason is because we are in the military," Abraham explained calmly while looking at Rosita Abraham buckled up and Rosita sighed in relief when she heard that they could get through. "I told you I could do it," Abraham said with a laugh, whereupon Rosita smiled and agreed with him and shortly afterwards Sophie spoke up. "Can we continue?" She asked both of them while Abraham turned on the engine and drove slowly towards the roadblocks.
"Yeah, let's move on," Abraham answered her with a smile, which made Sophie smile too. So Abraham drove on to the roadblocks which the soldiers opened for him, whereupon Abraham drove through but then immediately closed as he drove through. Abraham drove on and was finally able to leave the city. On the drive he was talking and joking with Sophie to distract her from looking out the windows when he saw some of the undead walking outside and luckily it worked and he gave Rosita a nod that everything was fine and he continued to distract Sophie which he did also did while he continued driving. He continued talking to Sophie while Rosita looked outside intently. After about 10 minutes, Abraham decided to stop talking and tell Sophie something about Abraham's youth because he knew that she always found his stories exciting. That's how it was this time too. Sophie listened attentively to Abraham as he spoke, sometimes she asked a few questions and when he answered them and continued talking, she listened to him attentively. Rosita smiled as she watched what was happening, but she didn't say anything about it at first and decided to let the two of them go before Rosita looked out again. The journey continued and Abraham continued to talk until after a while he looked back because Abraham noticed that Sophie hadn't asked any questions for a while. And there she was, falling asleep in the car seat while listening intently to Abraham.Abraham tapped Rosita, who turned around and smiled, but she said that they should let her sleep, to which Abraham agreed. Abraham turned his attention back to the road and drove on. It took about half an hour until they arrived at the base/barracks, where a soldier asked both of them for their personal details and both gave them an ID card-like object, which the soldier looked at while he asked what they wanted here since they weren't on duty or anything be. Rosita explained to him that they wanted to see someone and the soldier nodded and then gave the two of them their things back. "You can go through, Mr. Milton Milton is there," said the soldier as he pointed to a building and signaled to the other soldiers who were there on guard to open the gate, which they did and so Abraham drove in and the soldiers closed the gate again. There was a moment of silence between Rosita and Abraham while he drove in and looked for a parking space.After a few minutes, Abraham parked after finally finding a parking space and then turned off the engine. Rosita got out first and then closed the car door, which Abraham also did after taking out the key. "Are you taking Sophie?" Abraham asked after he also got out and looked at Rosita.
Rosita nodded before saying anything. “Sure,” she said before she went to the back of the car where the back seat was where Sophie was sleeping. Rosita opened the car door and then unbuckled Sophie and then picked her up slowly but tried as best as she could not to wake her.
Abraham then closed the car door and both of them made their way inside the building where their old friend Mike Milton was supposed to be.
