Chapter 62

Matteo

I love my sister to pieces but sometimes she scares me.

I don't mean that in the sense that she is a scary person; even though sometimes she can come off that way, I just mean I worry about her safety. I know she can handle her own - if these latest events have proven anything it is that, but not telling us her whereabouts while doing something so dangerous is reckless. I know we need to cut her some slack because as much as it pains me to think about, she didn't grow up with us. I hate it. I don't think I will ever get over the fact that someone took away my sorellina, and that I will never get those years I missed out on back. None of us will. 

But that is the exact point. She has relied on herself for so long that she probably didn't even think about the importance of telling us. It's still new to her and yelling at her isn't going to help. Now, trying to explain that to Lorenzo is going to be a little bit hard.

Once the front door shuts and Nova leaves to go meet up with her friend, Lorenzo turns to Andres with a hard look on his face before saying "Expain," and heading off into the dinning room. Obviously we all follow. We all take our seats at the table getting ready for the run down of events that took place without any of us there.

"After Nova lost their tail," Andres starts, talking about Toni and Elio. "I was able to keep up because I was also on a bike. I knew she wasn't going to lead me to where she really needed to go if she saw me though, so I made myself not seen. I don't think I would have gotten away with it if she knew the area like I do, cause I will admit, your sister knows what she is doing more then most people I know." He says with a certain look in his eye but I can't quite grasp what it is. 

"You can say that again." Elio says. "I think I am still in denial that our sister is Wendigo. I mean Wendigo. That means she is better then all of us. Our sister-"

"Yes Elio we are aware of all those points." Toni says cutting off his Twin before looking back to Andres. "Continue."

"I knew one of the streets she was going on, and where it led to. I took an alternate way, I guess you could call it a little short cut, and then waited. That is when she thought she lost me. I stayed back a bit, keeping my distance until she arrived. Of course though she didn't even park near the house she needed and instead went to a whole different street." He says with a scoff.

Lorenzo lets out a smirk his eyes clearly thinking about something.

"I just thought of something random." Elio speaks up again. "Nova has done several different jobs for people, but yet no one knows her identity? You're telling me nobody has tried to show up and see who it is? Hide out and scope it out? I know Nova believes no one knows, but you really think there isn't someone who has done that and might have some crazy blackmail idea or something?" He questions. "Or you know, that could just be me" He says falling back in his chair.

Before I could speak and tell him we can't fully know the answer to that- Lorenzo speaks up. "They know not to cross her." He says simply.

"But how do they know that if they haven't tried it."

"You are honestly telling me before knowing Wendigo was Nova, that you would go and 'scope it out?'" Antonio asks with a raised eyebrow. "How many times have we talked about her and not once did that com up."

"Yeah but we never had a reason to. You know like what about people with bad intentions?" Elio says.

"They know not to cross her because she would have killed them." Lorenzo says.

"Not if she didn't see them."

"She would have." Andres says.

"How would you know?" Toni questions.

"Because I was there. I saw how she did things. Trust me she was very careful especially about her surroundings-"

"Clearly not enough if you tailed her the whole way." Marcello speaks up for the first time at the table tonight with a small smirk.

"Yeah yeah but you gotta take my word for it, that was different in a way. I honestly feel like that girl has a 6th sense where she can sense a threat." Andres says.

"She probably does." Mar agrees. "That girl scares me sometimes. Remind me to never cross her in any shape or form. She might like ..carve out my eyes while I sleep." He says with a shutter.

"I am still fucking pissed she didn't tell anyone." Lorenzo says. "I don't feel like I ask much of you guys."

"Lorenzo." I say to get his attention. "You gotta understand as much as it sucks to even think about, but our sister had herself and herself only to depend on for years. She is new to this. I mean from the sounds of it family is new to her, and I hate that as much as you. She didn't realize that what she did was wrong because in her eyes it was just another day. Another job. She used to do that shit all the time without telling someone what was going on or where she would be. And you can be mad but you can't fully take it out on her. Not by yelling. The only thing we can do is show her. Show her and talk to her."

Our conversation on the table continues on and Andres fills us in on every detail, me or one of my brothers jumping in with questions or comments. The more he shared the more proud I was of my sorella, but it also made me wonder that if she never was taken if she would have this side. How different our lives would be.

We end up migrating to the living room, and a little while later Nova comes back through the door before getting on the phone and taking to someone.

"Yes I want them shipped here." She says. "Okay. Yeah yeah obviously. I wouldn't if I didn't." She waits while the other person continues to talk. "Yes. Thank you." And then she hangs up.

"What's being shipped?" Mar asks.

"Some vehicles." She says with a shrug.

"You have more!?" Elio asks.

"Duh I gotta spend some of my money on something."

"Why didn't you have them shipped earlier with your others?" I ask.

"Well brother that would have been too obvious. I can come up with excuses for a few things, but for multiple vehicles you guys would catch on."

"You somehow continue to amaze me with your smarts each day." Mar says while shaking his head back and fourth.

"Well someone around here needs them."

"Hey now" Toni says in a sarcastic warning.

"Okay don't even pretend you are the one with smarts around here." She says and everyone but Toni laughs. "Oh come on that was funny. You gotta lighten up a bit."

"Oh really?" He says and then grabs ahold of her, lifting her in the air. When she squirms around a bit putting up a good fight, his hand slips around trying to keep a hold of her but then she winces and he quickly puts her down.

 "Whats wrong?" Lorenzo says, and then everyone is on their feet while Nova looks like a deer caught in headlights.
