Chapter 71

Nova

"I got shot gun." Jax calls before jumping into my car.

"Always." I respond.

"Alright your toughest opponent is going to be Jack today. He is pretty high up in the ranks around here."

"Yeah but that's just because I haven't been in this area long."

"Cocky much?"

"Is it cocky if its facts?"

"Alright its line up time."

I am the first to pull up but when I don't see any of the other cars that were near come over I start glancing around.

"What's going on Jax."

"I don't know let me get into-" 

I hear the rev of an engine and watch as  4 cars pull up the line. Looking to my right I see Toni behind the wheel with Elio in the passenger. To my left I see Andres, and not long after I realize my whole family is lined up with me. 

"What is this?" I ask.

"Well there is only one way to figure out who is fastest." Toni replies.

I feel a smile make its way to my face, "Oh honey all you had to do was ask. It's me obviously."

"I wouldn't be so sure." Lorenzo says, one car over from Toni with Matteo in the passenger seat.

"Easy old man, I know you aren't implying you are going to win. I know you haven't done a race in a few years now, you're just a little bit rusty."

I hear Marcello laugh. "You hear that. She just called you an old man."

"You better watch it Nova, that's the don you're speaking to." Lorenzo says with a hint of a smirk.

"Well I guess it sucks for the don that he happens to be my brother. Are we racing or what?" I say while my eyes look to each of them. When they fall on Andres he is already looking at me with a look in his eyes I haven't seen. 

"See you on the other end sweetheart."  He says before he rolls his window up.

The lady comes to stand in the center and as she was getting ready to count it clicked. This isn't the normal race I was put in for; nothing in this life comes from playing fair. It's just a series of cheat codes and strategies. Almost as if everyone thought the same thing, we all took off before she could continue her count down. 

"You already know the corners." Jax says like it's a reminder. 

"So do they." I say as I stay focused on the path ahead of me.

"Yeah but they don't have your brain." He says, then mumbles, "I'll never understand how that works." 

I cross behind Toni and Elio at one of the corners to get closer to Lorenzo and Matteo. I am on one side of them and Mar is on the other. I start getting closer to Lorenzo's car and as if Marcello's brain linked with mine he does the same. We are using each other to push them back, and they know it. Lorenzo does his best to not let it happen but it ends up working. 

"Toni is closing in on your left." Jax says.

"Yeah I had a feeling he was gonna try and pull the same thing with Mar." I say. 

The corner up ahead is pretty sharp and it is smarter to let off the gas slightly when you take it, and that is what they were planning on using to their advantage. 

As if Jax can sense my thought he looks at me. "Nova."

"Relax it's fine, I've done worse you know this."

I try not to laugh when he grabs onto the "oh shit" handle. 

Instead of slowing down I press harder on the pedal. Taking the corner sharply, I also make sure to spray some dirt onto Toni's windshield.  

This puts me in front of all my brothers, but not Andres.

"Fuck." I say hitting y hand on the steering wheel.

"He's gonna take this one wide." Jax says.

"What?"

"The next corner I was watching him while you were dealing with your brothers. He always takes the corners wide."

"No shit. Okay." I say speeding up.

"Yeah you can win." Jax says.

When we come up on the last turn Andres does what Jax predicted, and I take it pretty roughly I won't lie. I cut it pretty fucking close but I come out in front of Andres after almost causing us to crash into each other. I think Jax let out the most girliest scream I have ever heard from him.

Pressing all the way down on the gas on the final stretch I come in first with surprisingly Toni right behind me not Andres. Well I mean I guess he did have to swerve and slow just a tiny bit so we didn't all die. Oops my bad.

Jumping out of the car in the most nonchalant way, obviously, because I knew I was going to 100% win, I flip them all off.

"Take that suckers." I yell. 

"You are crazy." Toni says.

"Nah you guy's were just slacking." I say jumping up on my hood.

Andres comes and stands in front of me resting his hands on the hood.

"You almost fucking killed us both."

"You shouldn't have swerved you could have won." I say instead.

"No we would have crashed."

"No in any other race you wouldn't have swerved. You can't back down. Your brain had a malfunction." I say tapping the side of his head.

"Yeah my brain fucking malfunctioned. I thought I was going to kill my girlfriend." He says.

"Girlfriend huh?" I say with a small smile. I mean yes I kinda knew I was his girlfriend. When people refer to us as girlfriend and boyfriend we don't say otherwise, I just haven't actually heard him say it, well at least in front of me. 

"Yeah was that not clear?" He asks.

"No I figured as much, I just haven't actually heard you say it." I say looking up at him.

"Well I guess I will just have to fix that won't I."

"I guess so boyfriend." I say before he leans down to kiss me.

"Not another fucking inch." I hear Lorenzo say and I roll my eyes. When I look over I see every single one of my brothers glaring at Andres, actually Elio isn't. He is... digging into the backseat of the car. Oh- oh he was getting a snack.

I push Andres back slightly so I can jump off the car. 

"Alright so what did I win. I get a reward right?" I say trying not to smirk. I feel Andres wrap is arms around me from behind.

"I know I have one for you." Trying not to react because my brothers are right here I just squeeze is arm.

"Okay well we didn't plan that far ahead." Elio says.

"What do you mean?"

"We thought that if we all raced the chances of you winning would be slimmer, so we were hoping to humble you a bit." Toni says.

I try my best not to laugh at how honest that was.

"It seems like you are the ones to get humbled." Jax says.

"Ooo. I want ice cream. Whoever can pick me the best flavor can be forgiven, the rest of you will be in the dog house." 

I say removing Andres from around me. "Including you." I say with a smile.

"Let's go Jax we can watch a movie." I say getting back into the car. "Tik-tok," I say to the other boys.
