Nova
Walking into Ms. Rosewood's class I head towards the back yawning because I am so exhausted. I pause though, when I see a grinning Andres staring right at me in my seat. Well its not my seat because he got here before me. Out of all days he had to take it on the one day I was too tired to do anything but stare out the window. Guess that is out of the plans. I sit down in the seat next to him and stretch out my legs before running my hands over my face and looking up at the ceiling tapping at my face to keep myself awake.
"What? No comment about the seat?" Andres asks.
I slowly roll my head in his direction before saying "not everyone is as immature as you. I told you if you got here first you got it." I say before another yawn slips though.
"Did you not sleep last night?" He asks with a look of concern.
"I have had a long week okay?" I say.
Everyone starts filling into the class when the final bell rings, and its silent except for the couple of friends whispering to each other.
"Did you want the seat?" Andres asks.
"What? No. You got here first it's just a seat."
"Are you sure?"
"Why are you acting like that?"
"Acting like what?
"Like-" I don't get to finish my sentence because Ms. Rosewood decided it was time to start class.
"Alright guys we are just going to jump in straight from where we left off last week." She says.
I put on my sun glasses and lean back in my seat in case I dose off.
"Nova. Sun glasses off inside of the classroom." Ms. Rosewood says and I pull them down a little to look at her.
"Why?" I ask.
"Because those are those are the rules inside my classroom."
"May I have an explanation on why that is a rule?"
"Well its distracting for one-"
"Distracting? My glasses are distracting? How?"
"Right now for example. I am trying to teach my lesson and we are wasting time."
"I wasn't the one who stopped you from your lesson Ms. Rosewood. That was you. No one was paying attention to me or my glasses."
"Nova take them off or I am going to have to send you to the office."
"I really didn't want to say anything in front of the class but I have to wear them." I tell her.
"And why is that?"
"Because I got a concussion over the weekend." I lie. "I am not supposed to be in bright lighting, so I have my sun glasses so I don't have to ask the teachers to compromise their classroom for me. I thought that would be more distracting then my sunglasses, but if not I apologize."
"Oh I- I am so sorry to hear that. You may keep your sunglasses." She says before clearing her throat and jumping back in to teaching.
I lean back in my chair and sense Andres looking at me so I turn towards me and send him a wink before fixing my sunglasses on my face and leaning back.
I think I ended up dosing off, but thankfully class is over. I gather my stuff and start walking out of the room, Andres hot on my heels.
"Concussion huh?" He says.
"Yeah I know right. The week just kept getting better and better."
"How'd you get it?" He asks with a raised brow.
