tropes in books and TV that I'm obsessed with
When the villain sings their villain song, and they grab the hero and sorta makes them dance and the hero's struggling to get out of their grip but the villain just pulls them closer and the camera zooms in on their hand tightening is grip on the hero's and I'm like 'so... they gonna kiss for sure.' and right as the villain hits their final note they dip the hero and look them dead in the eyes.
When there's a place with a 'no weapons' rule and a character just drops like, eighteen weapons and is pulling them out from places that wouldn't even work IRL and then when they look like they're done the guard goes 'ahem' and holds out their hand and the character sighs and hands over one last (preferably very small.) weapon.
when there's only one bed and the characters argue over who gets it, possibly resorting to physical violence, then it cuts to the next day with one of them lying on the floor without a pillow or blanket or anything.
when a character says 'whats the worst that could happen' or 'I will never do that' or something then it immediately cuts to them either in a terrible situation or doing the thing they said they'd never do.
Sarcastic quips in and after steamy moments. I want folks to be going 'do you ever shut up?' during sex then saying 'youre paying for my morning pills.' afterwards.
Insanely brave characters freaking out when like, a toaster pops.
Characters really wanting to tell their partners that they love them but are absolutely terrified to do so.
Accidental kiss.
Insanely flirtatious person constantly hitting on their rival who gets so unbelievably annoyed by it.
Character who's super casual about sex getting flustered by hand holding.
When two characters that are dating are lying in bed and one of them sorta pulls the other on top of them so they're lying across their chest.
Bitchy characters who are actually talented when it comes to the things they love. I'm not a huge fan of the 'oh the mean girl says she's the best at singing but she actually sounds like a dying seagull that swallowed a recorder.'
A character having some sort of hallucination where their loved ones are circling them and singing about how they really hate them and the voices overlap and the instruments are out of tune and the character's curled up on the floor, grabbing the sides of their head and trying to block it out.
Female psychopaths. I'm writing a story with a female villain, and I make sure to make her seem a liiiiiiiiiiittle sociopathic.
A character changing their mind about sex right before it happens and their partner is like 'oh. ah, thats fine. um... you wanna get food...? or something...? Or just go home...?' just really awkward but respecting the boundary.
Villain characters still valuing consent.
Characters having to perform complicated medical procedures on themselves.
Selective mute characters staying mute throughout the entire story and instead of it seeming like not talking is terrible they just find non-verbal ways to communicate with their loved ones.
SA victims who still like sex and dating.
Quiet Polite Top X Loud Abrasive Bottom
Friends making fun of each other but in a really generic way, like without bringing up each other's genuine insecurities or triggers.
Grumpy (girl) X Sunshine (Boy)
Folks going from pitbull to golden retriever when they see their partners.
Friends with benefits not developing romantic feelings for each other.
Goofy villains.
A villain explaining their whole evil plot and the hero's all 'ILL STOP YOU' and the villain's like 'babe, I set the bomb off twenty minutes ago, thats the only reason Im explaining everything to you.'
Villain X Villain relationships where they're sweet and fluffy with each other.
Morally grey characters calling themselves pure evil.
Friends to lovers to friends to lovers to enemies to friends.
Popular character being hopelessly in love with the quiet kid who sorta just keeps to themselves.
Really really really specific insults.
