Chapter 90

The two of them charge at me, their faces masked by gas masks, and equipped with mechanical arms and sharp claws for fingers. I wait until the last moment and project a sword and strike horizontally, forcing them to stop and retreat. Then the chain shrinks back, entering both their arms.

"The chain!" Sakura exclaimed.

"I'll take care of it!" Sasuke climbs onto the roof of the car.

He leapt up, pulling out a shuriken and throwing it with precision towards the chain, pulling it with it's speed and jamming it into a tree. He then pulls out a kunai and throws it straight into the center of the shuriken, confirming the chain's blockage.

The two of them get stuck in front of me, looking back, surprised by their blocked movements. I take the opportunity to throw my leg out and strike them in the face. Both lose their balance, still tied up by the chain. But with a flick of their mechanical arms, they free themselves and run in circles to reach Tazuna and Sakura, who has stayed with him. With a simple glance at Sasuke, I run towards one of them while Sasuke takes care of the other. I catch up with the slower one, preparing to throw him to the ground, but he brings his mechanical arm forward, claws open, ready to slash at me. [BOOST] I stop him by catching him with my gauntlet, which surprises him. I don't give him time to recover and throw my fist straight into his face, stopping him in his tracks and he collapses to the ground, unconscious.

I turn to Sasuke, to see that he has defeated the other one too, I make my gauntlet disappear, and drag my opponent to my team, then tie them with a rope that I project.

"Well done, Sasuke-kun, Senji-kun..." Sakura is still trembling. "But for Kakashi-sensei... We can't go on alone... can we?"

Sasuke and I look at each other, not knowing what to say, but before I can do anything, I hear footsteps again from the back of the car. I brace myself but my jaw drops when I see who's coming.

"Good job kids, that was a good job." It's Kakashi who steps forward, hands in his pockets.

"Kakashi-sensi! So you're alive!" Sakura exclaimed, her face beaming with happiness.

"...Were you pretending to be dead?" Sasuke asked.

Instead of answering, he laughs and crouches down to face our two still unconscious assailants. I turn to where the pieces of his corpse should be, but instead there are logs.

(Illusion plus permutation... He fooled us all...)

Tazuna sighed, as if his life had just flashed before his eyes.

"Sorry I didn't step in, but I wanted to check if you were really ready for the job, and it looks like you are. Congratulations to all three of you, you acted wisely and quickly." Kakashi congratulates us. "Even though you should have kept your cool Sakura, but you still acted well by protecting and Tazuna and leaving the boys to it."

I look down at my hand, surprised by my own efficiency, I've defeated him with a well-placed punch. Admittedly, I've strengthened my body so I hit twice as hard, but I'm still surprised. I clench my fist, pleased with my progress.

"Senji." I turn to see Sasuke beside me, watching our two assailants. "That was good work."

"Well done to you too and thanks for the chain, otherwise it would have been complicated." I thank him.

He just nods, and I must admit I didn't expect him to cooperate so easily. Since the incident in the harbor, I'd noticed that he was more distant towards me.

"By the way, I hope none of you got hurt, their claws are covered in poison." Kakashi remarked, dragging the two to tie them more securely to a tree. "Tazuna."
