"That's more of a program modification there, that's a leap in years..." I sigh, walking slowly very early down the street. "Doing the third-year program now.... Does even Nezu-sensei know about this?"
I sigh on the way, heading straight for a gate bought by the school so we can close it. The sun hides behind a few clouds in the blue sky, giving a certain softness to the morning.
Seeing that I've reached my destination, I take a deep breath, mentally concentrating, slap my face to wake me up and move on. When I get to the front, a gentleman stops me, asking what I'm doing here. I just pull out my student card, as Minori-sensei said, and seeing the school I'm from, he nods and lets me through.
Generally speaking, gates appearing on roads or in public places are dealt with immediately, but some may appear in old buildings, forests or other environments where humans are not active. These gates are spotted, then barricaded and guarded until a group takes charge of closing them. Which is what we're doing today. I move towards the blue gate standing in the middle of a field, spinning on its axis and giving off energy, not much for its rank, but you can feel a wave of energy emanating from it. The gate is three meters high, which is quite impressive, especially when seen in person. A cold sweat breaks out on my forehead, as I think back to that huge portal I once saw on TV, visible for miles around.
"Oh, here's our first student!" Exclaims an unfamiliar voice. "I can see you're someone who's serious about your work, that's good young man, you've got a future ahead of you!"
I turn toward the voice to see a guy with spiky red hair, held in place by a red bandana tied around his forehead, an unshaven morning beard. He's wearing a red suit with black armor, shoulder pads and gloves over it, all reinforced with a metal plate. He wears white pants and black shoes, plated with metal, and a sword at his belt in its scabbard.
"Hello, I take it you're the C-rank hunter?" I ask, bowing politely.
"That's right! My hero name is Klein!" He exclaims, punching his armor proudly. "To whom do I have the honor?"
"Emiya, Senji Emiya. Nice to meet you." I reply, resting my gaze on the gate.
"Is this the first time you've seen one in person?" He asks me.
"Yes, it's... impressive." I nod.
"I confess I'm surprised to see Kuoh's first years getting into gate hunting." He massages his chin, contemplative. "But I imagine they have their reasons for training you now. But don't worry, E-rank portals are child's play even for the most amateur hunters. So with your school's training, things should run smoothly."
(He's right, this portal emits less energy than Zabuza or Haku...)
"Here comes the first team! Welcome!" Klein exclaims.
I turn towards the entrance to see Team 30 arriving, made up of Garrett Kinua, Azuki's rival. Keita, a young man with short brown hair, wearing light armor over his school uniform. Reya Kusaka a slim girl with long brown hair that ends in two short braids and matching eyes. She also wears a blue headband.
Accompanied by their team leader, Best Jeanist, the number 4 ranked hero, he's very tall, slim with blond hair, neatly styled on the left side. He wears a full denim outfit.
"Senji Emiya!" Garrett calls, stepping toward me. "Hello! Did you arrive without your team?"
"Hello Garrett-senpai." I face her. "Yes, they shouldn't be long. I didn't know we were going to have second-years with us."
