Chapter 108

I plunge my blade into the body of the last wolf present, killing it instantly. I free myself and stretch my back, feeling exhaustion begin to set in. It's almost 20 minutes since we entered this portal, and even the teachers and heroes watching over us are surprised by its length. Klein reassures us that it's rare, but with the presence of another path, it's not so surprising.

"I hope we make it to the end, though." Sakura sighed, wiping the blood off her gloves.

"It's true that it's getting long, croac." Said Tsuyu, looking behind us. "Any news of your clone Senji?"

"Nothing at all." I reply. "But the smell is completely different, there it smells like wet dog but on the other path, it feels like you're in a dense forest. Maybe I didn't get a good look, but the walls were made of stone too, weren't they?"

"It was too dark to know." Shoda said to me. "I just hope it wasn't the right way leading to the boss of that gate."

"Anyway, let's get this over with." Sakura exclaimed. "The sooner we get it over with, the sooner we can get out of here, I'm starting to really hate this smell."

"I agree, and I must admit that killing wolves displeases me greatly." Mina adds. "It's not for nothing that we tamed them!"

"Sakura's right, let's get it over with." I turn to my two front companions. "Garrett, let's go."

Garrett nods and walks ahead, followed by the rest of the group. I can feel one of them approaching me discreetly. I turn my head to see Reya, smiling gently at me.

"So Senji-kun, surprised to see another devil other than the peerage of Rias-senpai?" she asks me.

"Rias-senpai had told me that there were other devils present in the school, so I was wondering which peerage you belonged to, if you belonged to one." I ask, curious.

"Oh, it's true you haven't had time to meet yet." Reya chuckles slightly. "I'm at the order of Sona-senpai."

"Ah I see, Rias-senpai told me about her, she's his friend, and there's a little rivalry between the two isn't there?" I wonder.

"Indeed, but it's in friendship, so let's be good friends, shall we Senji-san?" She asks, patting my shoulder.

"Of course, nice to meet you Reya-san." I nod.

"Fufu, likewise." She smiles at me, then turns her gaze forward, frowning. "Oh, it looks like we're coming to the end."

"Senji! This looks like a boss's room!" Garrett calls out to me. "Can you scan it real quick?"

I step forward, leaving Reya to return to her position. I crouch in front of what looks like an entrance to a boss room, place my hand on the wall and scan, concentrating, trying to analyze everything. Sweat runs down my forehead, I can feel the presence of seven beasts in all, but one of them is huge... I pull my hand away from the wall, catching my breath. The others look at my face, and seeing them worried, I imagine I am too, suspicious of what awaits us in this room.

"7 Wolves in total, one of them twice their size." I tell them.

Everyone looks at each other, not at all reassured by my analysis. I stand up and discreetly look around the room, the wolves know we're here, yet they stand their ground, protecting the huge beast behind them.

(No doubt, he's the clan leader, but is he the boss of this gate ?) I think back to that other passage. (I hope so, otherwise we'll have to keep going...)

"What do we do?" Garrett asks. "Do we go for it or do we try something?"

"We can try something explosive." Sasuke suggested. "Senji, can you strengthen me?"
