(Matt's POV)

Dinner is quiet. I think because today is a bad day. It seems like nothing but bad and Mama says that those days make people tired. I guess everyone is tired. Wendy is back to being sad. She doesn't seem hungry either. Everyone else is almost done and she still is on her first plate.

"Does anyone want pie?" Mama is using her happy voice, but I know she's tired too.

Papa tries to be happy too.

"I'd love some, Butterfly. Do you want some Little man?"

I'm full, but I always love dessert.

"Yes, please."

I look over at Wendy, she just keeps pushing her mac and cheese around. I don't think she wants pie.

"I'll have some too, Danielle."

Wendy's mama picks up her plate and Wendy's.

"Why don't you go lay down on the couch, Baby girl."

"I'll help too."

Papa picks up Mama's and my plate before heading to the sink. I stay in my chair.

"Hey, Little prince, why don't you head in there too. I'll bring your pie in a moment."

I listen and head to the living room. Wendy's lying on the couch, and I sit in the corner on the other side.

"Are you okay?" I check on her. Mama says it's important to check on people when they're sad.

She shakes her head.

"I just want to go home."

I'm not sure what to say. I want to make Wendy feel better, but everything seems to make her sad.

"Maybe you'll go home soon."

She shakes her head again and starts to cry this time.

"No, I don't think I ever will."

Wendy closes her eyes and I stay quiet. I hope sleep will help her feel better. Maybe this time she'll be able to fly in her dreams like she wanted to earlier.
